The Screen Savers is trying to prove that it is harder to hack someones computer than most people think. They have offered a challenge.

The Screen Savers "Hack Our Box" Challenge
written by The TSS Group on Tuesday, October 12, 2004

Be the first person to hack into our system, and we'll invite you to be on the show!

And when we say "hack," it means we want you to compromise the system and prove it by putting a file or folder or really anything onto the desktop of the computer. The first person to successfully get into the system and identify themselves to us will be invited to be a guest on The Screen Savers. (Note: No, we're not paying for your airfare, so it's up to you to figure out how to get here.)

We're running a computer with the standard Windows XP Pro (with Service Pack 2).

IP Address: 68.65.212.211

Well of coarse, the sucking started when they got rid of Leo and the regulars ;)

I don't think their PC will get hacked, They're so cheap they probably turn the power off when the show is over :p

I would've tried if only I had some hacking skills. Actually, I don't have any clue about how someone can hack into another PC! What do I need to know? Programming, networking... I wish I could grab some book or get someone to teach me.

We're running a computer with the standard Windows XP Pro (with Service Pack 2). Yeah, behind the latest Hardware Firewall!! LOL, with the power turned off... that IP is prolly of the Router with ICMP turned off!! Sounds dodgy... even if they issue a challenge, Im sure you can sued for WireFraud! or err... hacking... ;)

@Hotmail, wait til you get to uni, then you can cause all the grief to your system Admin... hehe...

They said that they were not behind a router or other hardware firewall. The idea was to have it as close to the novice viewers configuration as possible.

Well it will be an interesting exercise anyway...

Name: ca-stmnca-cuda2-blade1b-211.stmnca.adelphia.net
Address: 68.65.212.211

Ping is disabled, as well as netbios over Tcp/ip

Lucky its SP2, else Sasser exploit could have been used... LOL... how long are they going to run this for... are they going to patch with October's security updates... there are a lot of Remote Code execution flaws ;)

Actually a major stumbling block will be the fact they are blocking ICMP... many automated scripts/tools initially use that to determine if the host is alive and quits if 'turned off'

as an after thought, what do they use for internet... CABLE, ADSL, SAT... ??

They have to have a big pipe with all of the game hosting they do.

I was watching TSS a few minutes ago. They anounced that the project had been cancelled by their IT department.

it's true...

The "Hack Our Box Challenge" is now officially over due to the security risks it posed to us and to our ISP. Please don’t attempt to break in anymore. Sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks for your interest.

hahaha

Lames McPlains......

Do they really think hackers will stop?

I bet the fame of hearing them pleading for hackers to release their internet connection so they can continue to research websites on the net would be worth any airtime they would have given hahahaha

update,
i bet the ip will be surrendered to the proper authorities so they can set a trap and keep tabs on advanced persistant hackers who could do some damage to ...........

That is so lame, I knew it was a setup from the start... I think its Entrapment!

Oh well, instead of hacking them, they are prolly scared of DDOS ;)
