It's official :D

Hotmail rolls out 250MB storage capacity in AU

Microsoft has followed through with its long-awaited plan of increasing Hotmail users' storage capacity to 250MB.

Hotmail users were this week pleasantly surprised to find the increase in free e-mail storage limits from 2MB to 250MB finally start to kick in. Microsoft announced its massive expansion plan last June but did not specify when it would become available.

A spokesperson for the Microsoft/Publishing and Broadcasting Ltd (PBL) joint venture in Australia, ninemsn, told ZDNet Australia that the roll out for the storage upgrade in Australia will be finalised in two weeks. She clarified that there was "no delay" in the roll out for the storage increase since its announcement in June. She added that ninemsn simply prioritised first the upgrade of its anti-virus feature, which was the top service requested by majority of their 4.1 million customers.

Well I'm happy with the 250. Best thing Microsoft has done in a long time. I've even started running Hotmail through Outlook since I am starting to accumulate my emails as opposed to going through and deleting old ones daily. Outlook just helps me manage them and find the emails I need more quickly.

all the junk that has been tormenting my hotmail account.I think it's very unfair that -unlike Yahoo! mail- the junk we get in Hotmail counts toward our mailbox storage quota.

I don't know if it has been the same for you, but since Hotmail upgraded the mail interface I have been receiving MUCH less junk mail. Now I only get 9-10 SPAM emails go to the Junk mail folder and about 1-2 slip through to my Inbox (per week).

hotmale
October 27th, 2004, 20:11 PM
Well if you're getting less junk , SupaStar, that's good news, but I still don't understand why the filtered spam (which is sometimes as big as 300KB) is considered a part of my 2MB storage space. But that shouldn't be a problem after I get the 250MB :D

Gmail seems to be the way to go. Especially with the ability to use your Gmail account as an online file storage system.. :D Hotmail has perks. I use it and it works flawlessly with Outlook. If I had 250Mb of storage I'd be happier. Maybe they might upgrade freely in the future for all??

I still have 2 MB and it seems I was the only with the Outlook Express not being supported too :(
For almost a whole week I could not check my email thru Outlook because I was receiving a message that using Outlook with Hotmail wasn't supported anymore :( Maybe, this is a preview of things to come?
I am using Hotmail instead of Yahoo just because I can connect with Outlook Express. If I could use Outlook (downloading the whole email not header) or any other email manager I would be even happier. I know I won't pay for an email account that receives as much as 60 spam messages a day :p
Thought their new spam system is working better. Unfortunately I couldn't get a Gmail. :(
BTW, I am posting today, because finally I could connect with OE :p

My account starts with 'a' and is still 2mb. Guess they are upgrading geographically, which means that I'll wait forever, since things in México are done specially slow.

But I use Outlook to check my mail, so I rarely receive the limit warning.

@Hotmale - Popup blocker doesn't seem to affect it. It has something to do with Microsoft's non-standard coding from what I understand.

@Laylah - Sounds like Outlook is the best way to use Hotmail. I get much quicker access to my emails however it's always a risk running Outlook as it is so prone to malicious attacks.

HI
Your problem is genuine owing when I had changed my region in hotmail profile in some 20ees of NOV, the ninemsn were going to update there remaning (or all) members to 250mb in the 1st month of december...
And now there isnt any mention of updating there new members (who are converting there region!) because hotmail is now offering the new member sigup of 250 mb! It is true... Now download opera browser and open the hotmail site in it! (as it will open that old look hotmail site, one appearing some yrs ago). From there, u can signup 4 new account having 250mb storage and 10mb attachment and so...

Anywayz, can somebuddy guide me that how can i configure my outlook express or ms outlook as a mail manager for hotmail and yahoo... there are certain configurations of stmp server and so... is there any alternative to hotmail plus!!

Adeel. ;)

You can use the following Trick:

Important: When trying to increase your limit, you may be loosing all emails stored in your hotmail inbox, so please follow the instructions below prior to go into the increasing procedure.

All your emails in the mail box may be deleted as the new account settings will REFRESH your inbox. Please backup your emails before proceding.
One method for backing up is, first of all make an extra folder in your mail box, and move your emails from your inbox to that newly created folder.
However there is no need to backup your addressbook or msn messenger contacts, they will remain unchanged.

GOOD LUCK.

To increase Hotmail Account Limit to 250mb
Follow these steps..!!

Login ur hotmail account and go to options.
Go to "Personal"
Click "My Profile"
Change Country to "United States"
Wait for browser to load United states settings.
Change the state to "Florida" and zip code "33332"
Click "update"
Click "Continue"
Go to "Language" and make sure its "English"
Paste the following link in the same browser and hit go.

http://by17fd.bay17.hotmail.msn.com/cgi-bin/Accountclose

Wait until the Screen says you're Hotmail is Closed and scheduled to be deleted.
Click "Close Account".
Go back to login page and relogin to ur hotmail account..!!

Your account size will now increase to 25 MB which a month later becomes 250 mb.
Good Luck..!!

PS.It worked, however i guess the Florida thing is simply a diversion because new hotmail accounts are given 250 by default now. So the trick is to actually "de-activate and re-activate the account" only !

Dont worry i have tried it and it worked before sending to you.

people people, look at gmail; over 2GB of space. if you don't want gmail, try yahoo; 250MB of space and they have plans to make it 1GB soon. or try rediffmail.com, they provide 1GB as well.

but none provides access thru Outlook or Outlook Express (or thunderbird, or whatever) for the free service. Recently I got a notice from Hotmail that they will stop the Outlook OE access for free new accounts

Gmail provides free pop3 access for OE, Outlook, thunderbird, etc :)

The same happened with me as well but I kept on trying and I can't remember exactly wat I did that night but the next day when I opened my account it was nt 250 MB but 2000 MB.Beleave me or nt but it is true.I again tried it on a couple of my friends accounts but it did'nt worked.
I guess it is due to some flaw as instead of 250MB free account I got 2000 MB paid (u've to pay some 17$ yearly ) account for free.
I,m sure the Guru's would've noted that pt and will be trying to exploit that flaw.

interestingly, just like hotmail users said, as long as you changed your location, the space was automatically updated to 250MB during registeration, mmm. I really think, for get it,what should I do first is to change my nationality to other countries.

www.aim.com is now offering 2GB. But I don't know why it would be preferable to Gmail.

Hi There Folks I don't know if it is going to work with you, it did work with me to increase from 2MB to 25Mb, and I did it by the following procedure.

First I Check In my Account and went to the options tab, after that I went to my profile and moved myself to New York.

I did set up even a postal code and apply the changes to my profile.

After that I just check out and a few days later my inbox was increased to 25mb.

Hope this help you to have a little bit more, even if it is not the 250Mb offered by Microsoft
