Maybe this is everywhere and I'm just an idiot but where do you get Longhorn?
Are there free copies everywhere or are they just for executive members of something?

First of all Xenoforce, welcome to techzonez and you're not an idiot - perhaps just uninformed. I'm sure someone will be along shortly as I don't know as well.

At last years PDC (professional developers conference) longhorn was given out on DVD to all attendees. Also, if you are an MSDN subscriber you get access to Longhorn there as well.

There are other shadier ways of obtaining Longhorn, P2P, Pirate shops, mail order (you gotta be a nuttcase), and so on...

That said, it's really not stable enough and really any better than XP at this stage. In fact it creates a lot of issues and so on. Driver support, windows update support and software support are nonexistent. So you have to find your own fixes and so on...

But it is available.

hmm... my work has an MSDN subscription.. but i was told they are only offering screenshots and the like to Longhorn. i could be wrong, or was misimformed.

and yes, as booger said, i dont think its even in beta yet... so its not gonna have very much to play with... except seeing the new look.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/longhorn/

RIght hand side, under TASKBAR: It says "Download Longhorn" I personally am not an MSDN subscriber, but I know of people who have gotten access to it via that outlet.

I think it's still Alpha. A bit too much trouble at the moment from what I hear but if you're like me you're probably happy to give it a go see whats happening in the future of Windows.

From what I can see, it'll take much more work for their MS's slated 2005 release. But guessing from their patterns, expect it to be delayed for maybe another year?
