Anyone have any recommendations? My wife wants to record Japanese shows, DVDs, and so on and I want to do the same with English content.

Want to be able to play CDRs, DVD+-R/RW, VCD, SVCD, MP3, WMA audio, etc...

Also would like to have an internal HDD (at least 100GB). Willing to pay but want to keep it ideally below $500.

:D

Not sure if these 2 below are region free:

Philips HDRW720 DVD Recorder with 120 GB Hard Drive (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00022PUDI/georeviews3-20?creative=329585&camp=14573&link_code=as1)

Toshiba RD-XS32 DVD Recorder / Player (http://www.dealtime.com/xPF-Toshiba_RD_SX32)

I found those as well. I am just not sure I can get them shipped to Japan.. :( And I don't want to pay $100 for shipping :(

I'm still looking. Anymore suggestions feel free.

That philips unit looks promising. Could I get the Toshiba and upgrade the HDD later on? :D

CyberHome Ch 402 or later

I am going to pick one up this weekend and would be happy to mail it to you Boogz. Cost is about US $50.00 here in Germany.

I have one and use it daily for the past year. It went tits up last week, so good for a year I guess.

It ships with RC 2, but I have something for that.

MSN,
I actually just solved this by hooking my TV and a spare PC up for DVD playing, recording, and so on. I use a wireless Logitech Duo keyboard and mouse with it and now can record TV, play DVDs, listen to music, and surf the internet all while farting around on the couch.

But if the shipping is cheap, I might take you up on that kind offer. :D via the paypal express.
