Best Firewall program?

Sorry guys for making this type of thread as im sure there may be many of them.I just wanted a fresh one because of all the new software out now.

The question is simple.Whats the best Firewall program out there currently?

Ive used many in the past such as norton,zonealarm,ect.I really dont like norton ive had far to many problems with it blocking out web access to IE and other problems as well.After reading up here i have discovered that SP2's firewall in XP doesnt really help as much as it could so i really want to install a new firewall.Note that i am using a router and i have norton systemworks 2005.

zone alarm pro works fine, hassle free and does it's job.

sp2's firewall is better than not having nething but not good enuf by itself. i disabled it and made zonealarm in charge of all the firewalling activities :D

Thaks for the info.Atr one point i used zonealarm pro but i had a weird problem.It haed some type of compatabilty issue with another prgram on my PC and would cause the system to reboot whenever i tried to use it.

Two of the best rules based (and rules meaning controlling every connection, port, direction,etc (allow, deny or partially allow) - of an app is Outpost and LookNStop. LookNstop is bizarre to me - I cannot figure it out.

thanks for the help guys.I got a copy of ZASecurity from a freind just to make sure it would work correctly and after installing so far it seems to be doing the job keeping out the adware and all so thats a nice plus.

It's funny you raisied the topic. A PC mag that I suscribe to has an article this month that rates all the best firewalls. It listed Segate's latest offering as the best, giving a rating of 4.5. Coming second was Norton Personal Firewall 2005 on 3.5. I've forgotten third...this is all off the top of my head :p

Avast Pro and Zone Alarm Pro (Zone Alarm is the only firewall that doesn't reduce my download speeds).

Hmm... it seems easier to pick an AV than firewall, in terms of system compatibility etc... Have people gone off Sygate?

The Best Fire wall Is tiny But the new version of ti need windows server 2003 or XP SP1

Tiny offers Windows process and file control and, if you are prepared to spend the time on configuring it, should give the most secure setup. However doing so (and maintaining it) is likely to require significant effort.

I'm not sure about Tiny but....GHP and similar applications are not able to be controlled by any other firewall apart from allow or disallow. Outpost gives the ability to control every aspect of how GHP communicates.
