Using HD Tach-Short Tests(8mb zones)

Maxtor 7200rpm 2mb cache ata 133 122 gb(found out it was 2 instead of 8 after the testing)
Burst Speed-118.7 mb/s
Random Access Time-22.1ms  (y is it so slow?)is it because of the 2mb cache?
CPU Utilization 2%
Average Read-39 mb/s
Temperature-28 C

Western Digital 7200rpm 8mb cache ata 100 120gb
Burst Speed-79.4 mb/s
Random Access Time-13.9ms
CPU Utilization-4%
Average Read-48 mb/s
Temperature-37 C

Western Digital 7200rpm 8mb cache sata 150 120gb
Burst Speed-77.3 mb/s
Random Access Time-13.8ms
CPU Utilization-2%
Average Read-48.4 mb/s
Temperature-30 C

Using HD Tach-Long Tests(32mb zones)

Maxtor 7200rpm 2mb cache ata 133 122 gb(found out it was 2 instead of 8 after the testing)
Burst Speed-119.9 mb/s
Random Access Time-21.4ms  (y is it so slow?)is it because of the 2mb cache?
CPU Utilization 2%
Average Read-38.9 mb/s
Temperature-30 C

Western Digital 7200rpm 8mb cache ata 100 120gb
Burst Speed-79.4 mb/s
Random Access Time-14ms
CPU Utilization-10%
Average Read-46.7 mb/s
Temperature-38 C

Western Digital 7200rpm 8mb cache sata 150 120gb
Burst Speed-77.3 mb/s
Random Access Time-13.8ms
CPU Utilization-7%
Average Read-48.6 mb/s
Temperature-32 C

Using HD Speed

Maxtor 7200rpm 2mb cache ata 133 122 gb
Burst Speed-108.2 mb/s
Average Read-45.4 mb/s

Western Digital 7200rpm 8mb cache ata 100 120gb
Burst Speed-72.6 mb/s
Average Read-55.3 mb/s

Western Digital 7200rpm 8mb cache sata 150 120gb
Burst Speed-73.1 mb/s
Average Read-55.1 mb/s

so in reality the sata as conan always said gives no advantage over ata but im still confused as to y i would see an increase in speed? but o well thats another story...anyway the maxtor would seem to be the best but the slow access speed would hinder it wouldnt it? what do u guys think is hould have my setups as...like OS on one HD games on another and then the last one for storage???or OS and Game on one and use the other 2 for storage...gimme all thought on what u guys think...thanks

Speed may be the same but the SATA will send data in 2 directions at one time where as ATA is parallel and can only send data in one direction at a time. This is the way I under stand it any way. I would use the SATA for gaming and the Maxtor for data storage and throw the other WD ATA away. I have not had any luck with WD ATA, they only last for a few months and then the data gets corrupted and you have to format and start over.
