Hello guys,I am currently planning on building a new PC.This will be my 4h that ive custom built from scratch.I have some idea's as far as hardware goes and just wanted to post to get some thoughts on everything.Hey you guys may know some things i dont.Thanks in Advance.

Recently ive been doing alot of reading on overclocking and decided i want to begin my first overclocking project hence why im building this new PC.

Ive pretty much already decided on this case.I really like how it looks and will probally modify it slightly by adding a second fan on the side window.

Ive been told this processor is great for overclocking and have heard of people overclocking easily to 2.8GHZ with nothing but the stock equipment.

I have one of these on my current PC and am very satisfied with it.Easy to use and set up and freedom from wires is great.Battery life in this is also great lasting 3-4 months on 4 AA batteries.

I figure i will just order everything at once online at newegg as ive heard its a great site and very reliable,Probally within the next week or so.

Ok with the CPU, MB, Ram, V-card, power supply your looking at $653 just for that.

If you want to trust that the PS that comes with the case is OK (I would) then you can knock off $99.

In doing so you can get the stuff below for $610 and have a much better system !

Even if you don't want A64 (can't imagine why you wouldn't), you should still get the Gforce 6600GT instead of the 9700 Pro.

i fully agree with u fastgame but if he goes 64 bit get a socket 939 cpu and a motherboard that supports dual channel so u can put the dual channel kit to good use

Thanks for the replies :)

At first i was actually looking at the 6600GT but i thought they were both about equal.Why is the 6600 better?

Never used NEC before how are there products?

And last for the AMD 64's i heard so far that at the moment there arent really much support for them as in any software/hardware that really makes use of the 64bit and also of driver compatibility issues.Dont know how true any of this is.Heh anyway this is exactly why i made the thread i want to get opinions from all you experts out there.

Well if he does it's going to cost more, I was trying to keep him around the Nforce2 /XP moblie $$$ range.

Clock per Clock, FSB to FSB there isn't much difference in performance between 745 and 939.

With socket 939 it's easier to OC higher with 1gig of Ram because the Dual channel controller handles it better than the single channel.

Hmm so going to the AMD 64 is a good idea i guess :) How have they been doing performence wise when being overclocked?and how about the compatibilty issues i mentioned above?

A64 is top of the line in performance for AMD, they OC great !

There's not any compatibility issues, A64 runs both 32bit & 64bit instructions :)

The 6600GT will out perform the 9700 Pro in all areas, since the price is about the same I see no reason for the 9700.

The NEC is considered by many as the best DVD burner, that and the BenQ 1620 are the most preferred.

Thanks for the info then :D looks like i'll be going with the A64 3000+ or possibly the 3200+,the 6600GT and the NEC DVD burner.I may look more into different Motherboards as well.I do have a question about the motherboard you suggested above to go with the A64 though.It appears to have either a video in or a video out jack on the back.Is that indeed what it is?Its right above the USB ports.Thanks for all the info.

No thats the Audio coaxial SPDIF out.

Ah ok thanks for the clear up on that.I noticed that the features said it had an SPDIF out jack but then i kept seeing the yellow and figured it may be a video jack since yellow is usually the color assigned to those.

looks like i'll be going with the A64 3000+ or possibly the 3200+

dont get a 3200+ save the extra money and just overclock the 3000+

o and depending on how much u want to spend u may think about getting an Sli board for future use but thats only if ur a heavy gamer Asus Sli (http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=13-131-517&depa=0)

and also u may want to get an sata hd instead of ata because the data can move 2 ways at one time instead of one and for me i noticed a speed increase over my other hard drives so i use sata as my main drive now Sata Maxtor (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=22-144-324&depa=0) and its only 10 bucks more than the ata one

As i said before im not really a heavy gamer heh just trying to keep up with the ever changing PC world.However i am a hardware freak i like to have the best of the best if ya know what i mean :D but dont always have the money for constant upgrades so i try to build a PC that will last a while which is why im building this one.I was actually looking at that gforce4 the other day i may grab one of those as i do prefer ASUS over MSI.I currently have an ASUS Nforce 2 and an MSI KT4AV in my two current systems which run an xp2400+'s and the ASUS definently seems to have better performance.I may just wait another week to add a little more money towards this PC that way i can go for the better hardware.

Heh yeah exactly i do the same exact thing.Right now i really want to upgrade so i wont have to worry about it for a while.But thats a good idea.from now on if i have the urge to upgrade when its not really needed i'll just save the money.Lol when i think about all the money ive spent in my past 3 PC's on un-needed upgrades i could kick myself.Could have built a PC with a budget of at least $1500-2000 bucks :eek:

good thought about saving... however, thats what fuels the development of newer go-fast gear... if everyone saved then you will be paying higher prices for less quality equipment ;)

Dont worry though, there are people with even more money who buy the latest stuff all the time so, middle range goods are actually cheap great goods ;) Classic example is 6600GT... great card for the $$
