i downloaded nero 6 with an illegal serial number(accidently not knowing it was not a freeware). i have problem with it and sent nero a technical support. they found out that i was using an illegal serial number and urge me to buy their products. i just do not want to do that. they say they will take legal action if i do not do so. would they do that? and even if they do how r they gonna find my real name, add and et cetera. since i do not provide all that in my yahoo mail. plzzzzzzzz help me by telling the truth. and since i know it was illegal i have completely reformatted my com, and i do not even have a nero software at all. it is like forcing me to buy.darhhhhh!
thank

they cud trace back ur ip to get ur personal info...
i suggest u un-install nero (and run ccleaner and regcleaner to remove ne instances of the software from ur pc) and see wat happens. if no legal notice appears in a week or two...u can prolly take it easy.. and if my guess is rite and u are in india (like u said in the pm) i doubt if nething will happen...indian cyber laws are useless :D..if they exist in the first place

Don't worry about it, if they keep bugging you then explain you don't have it installed. Tell them you didn't understand what you downloaded and you wouldn't have asked them for tech support if you knew something was illegal.
BTW just so everyone knows  PM means Private Message, all subject matter of a PM should remain just that...Private, not public ;)
Thanks

You've reformatted your HD?
What did you say to them - you installed it by mistake or you never installed it?
Like FG says, you cant tell them you never installed it becos that is why you asked them for tech. support in the first place. Just ignore them for a while. I seriously doubt that they will track you down or anything. Relax.

your ip address is embeded in yahoo mail and with that information amd the time they could contact your isp with a legal release and your isp using that information would be able to look into their logs which would without a doubt bring up the real person who e,mailed nero. That would be your account and your isp has your home address as well. The worse is that your account will be monitored by your isp for abuse and could be forwarded to te proper authorities and cancelled. All this will most likely never happen but you must realize that you are not invisible and even here we have your ip number and enough information to find out who you are and contact your isp.
Remember that every website has this ability.
Since you expressed to Nero that you made a mistake you should reply to any further emails that you have since formatted your hard drive and are now using the built in cd burning software in windows xp.

Tell them you didn't understand what you downloaded and you wouldn't have asked them for tech support if you knew something was illegal.

lol...im no expert at this...but ill give it a shot..
have u got ne further notices frm em? if no then u can take it easy and forget it...
if u DO, god forbid, get another of their notices, write to them and tell them ur side of the story...and then see what their response is....
if they are adamant on taking u to the courts..then the rest assured the judicial system of the country-where-u-reside will buy this:
explain you don't have it installed. Tell them you didn't understand what you downloaded and you wouldn't have asked them for tech support if you knew something was illegal.
i mean that u cud argue that nobody wud be foolish enuf (given that he knew how to obtain an illegal serial) to ask for tech support from the company and then give details abt the illegal serial he obtained for one of their commercial products....

gee thanks guys, i am from malaysia and u guys have gave ur best shots. it is just not fair that they force me to buy their product which literally i did not use at all and could not. i could have just used my old software which comes with it but i encountered problem with it. so i just asked some people and they say u can get free nero online, which i then surfed in google. found a website(not sure now) saying download nero free with serial number. and i thought it was free. so i used it . and then the problem persisted so i contacted them (probably should have with u guys first). it was actually my writer problem .so got to know it was illegal. terrible life. o.k i will just wait and see if they reply anything further and meanwhile if u guys have anything in mind, just reply. thanksssssssss a lot, u guys r pretty helpful. probably tell my friends about this damn good website. oh yes how about broandband do u think they still can detect. since one of my friend (where i bought the modem from) says for my type of connection they really don't do anything since they just can't detect it. and he says this things just never happens. tell me about it. thanks again. muah!

I have 'cable' and I have a static IP. The 2nd link says otherwise
However, if you have a dial-up connection, DSL line, or cable modem, then your IP address keeps changing every time you connect.
My IP is listed under my TCP/IP connection properties in controlpanel -> Network Connections -> Local Area Connection. I have a DNS server and everything too.
That means its static, right?

Can who detect you?
Also, you are seldom annoymous on the internet... Even though you have a dynamic IP, it doesn't make you annoymous.. because your provider is only given so many IP strings to share amongst it's customers... they'll know who you are... regardless...

You are never anonymous on the internet so don't go doing anything silly. Even if your IP is dynamic your provider must (by law) keep records of what ip is allocated to what subscriber all the time, even for dial-up your line is linked to the ip and the record stored. Even if you go through so called anonymous proxy they too must keep record of who connected to what and when. You can be traced at any time for misbehaviour, the moral of the story is - don't misbehave at least not in any way that might warrant tracking you down. And if you do - then do it from a public computer like in an inernet cafe where they take cash.

it is o.k guys i am kind of sure what is going arround. i know i am not anonymous. but after further contacting a friend of mine in the isp, he said this kind of legal action against home user never happens. and since if they find out that i am using a dynamic ip, they just don't waste their money and time sending legal stuffs(according to my friend). another friend of mine was caught with microsoft and in fact they sent him a letter saying they goona sue him, but nothing such happened. but anyhow i will just keep my hands crossed. but also being pretty sure that they will just ignore me (hoping toooooooo). just u guys don't get me into trouble huh! sigh! hehehehe, my kind request. o.k see you, i will just keep an update if there is anything. by the way, did any of u guys got into trouble something like this, just asking, share if u want to. bye thanks again.
