Does anyone have any info on such operting systems with pros and cons and sites with information about them? I'm aware of Linux--but that's the only one I've heard of.

Some of the downsides are you are stuck using Mac hardware (which is not that bad, but if you are used to cheap PCs, it might be) and less available hardware.
