Help My computer Crashed!!!!

Ok when I started my computer up it was fine but after 2 min. it started up it crashed. It rebooted and Norton GoBack said that it had encountered a problem and reestarted the computer so it could not crash. It also said that if it dident reboot drive #1 would have crashed. I tried everything to get back to my operating system Safe mode ( still rebotted)...... I tried to disable GoBack but it wouldent let me. It always froze. Can anyone help me fix my computer? Right now I am on my dads computer and I nead help!!!!

Did you bootup the XP CD and try XP Repair ?

He said that it dosent work well because I can't get into anything. He is afraid that I might ruin it more aand he is a computer tech. he says that there has to be some other option. I also have another question. Will that wipe all the data off the hard drive??

No it doesn't wipe the HD clean.

If your Dad is a computer tech then he should know all the options, why isn't he fixing it for you ?

We'll be more than happy to help you, but I don't want to list all the options and you come back saying your Dad said it wont work, nothing is guaranteed to work but you at least need to try first.

Get the Memtest 86 ISO (http://www.memtest86.com/#download0) unzip, burn to CD, boot the CD and make sure the ram is good.

Have your Dad hook your HD up to his PC and pull the important data off, wipe the HD & check it for errors and clean install XP.

I would try XP Repair first for the simple fact that if your HD or Ram is bad it wont even do XP repair.

Ok I did the mem test. The rams good. Is there any way that I can delate all my data? I want to format it but the disks are on flopys and my mother board dosent recognize it. How can I format my disk?

If you don't care if you lose your data then use the XP CD to format your drive.

windowsxp does not come on floppy discs

there is an option to create a series of boot floppies, but that is for users who cannot boot from the cd.

All windowsxp discs are bootable. you will need to enter your computers bios and change your computers boot order to place your cdrom as your first boot device.

You should follow FastGames advice and do a repair install. this will re-install windows like new but will keep all your data for you and your dad like email messages and bookmarks, mp3's, videos and all your games.

DO NOT FORMAT INSTALL if you wish to install windows.
