(56K, I pity you)...
On February 18, 2005, Dr. Martin Nowak from Germany, found the new largest known prime number, 2^25,964,951-1. The prime number has 7,816,230 digits.
It took more than 50 days of calculations on Dr. Nowak's 2.4 GHz Pentium 4 computer. The new prime was independently verified in five days by two reserachers in France and Spain.

Pretty interesting. We used to have a chapter called Number Theory that was basic(but interesting) properties of numbers stuff.
Damn... those numbers made me feel like Keanu for a moment... wake up <tarun>.... the matrix has you...... :p
Rohit's classmates in Ramiah(educational institute equivalent of Mensa) would love to know such stuff. Rohit tells me they crack Logarithm jokes :D.... no, really.

As a whole, rohit's class accounts for about 95% of the net IQ in the state (also considering my -ve iq value decreases the average :p)

there was the is question about finding logarithm of i to the base e, in one exam...i cud hear the super nerdy dudes laugh and talk abt somin related to it ..
my answer to that wuestion was zero (my answers are almost always, pretty conveniently, positive integers) apparently the super smart dudes got somin of the order of cis (pi)/2

Nice one :D Steve Jobs will be playing that joke to Billy G :msnwink:
@ Rohit, they got that due to identity relationship with log e and cis ;)

That statement is intended to be a funny joke. I do not know how the two verified their findings in 5 days and I suspect a lan party :D

nope i got that one wrong..that question was for a prefinal..when i didnt know much abt complex no.s but i still thot my soln was correct:
log i to the base e= log (-1)^1/2 base e= log ((-1)^2)^1/4 base e= log (1)^1/4 base e= 1/4log1 base e=1/4.0=0, QED :D

So what does the largest Prime number actually mean?? Besides being BIG, will they be able to use it for something, ie stock market prediction, chaos theory fractals??
