View Full Version : Windows Update not working

FastGame

I did a clean install of XP Home....went to Win Update to get all the updates & after it scanned said no available for my computer :( , thats odd since I need them all. So I went to update center with my other comp. that has all updates but a few that I always leave out....says no available updates.....also I can't view my installation History , it's Grayed out :( what the heck !

Both My comps are legit XP & legit WPA so is Windows Update down ? or did some how I get on BlackList

Thanks for your time :)

That happened to me once after a fresh install. I shutdown IE and tried again but the story was the same. When I tried the next day it worked fine. Perhaps it was the restart that helped?

Well I wish that was it , but this is the 4th day & no luck :( maybe I'll have to dig through the download center and do manually :(

Thanks :)

Fastgame,
Did the update site prompt you to update the the windows update script to v4? When i reinstalled it asked me to update the script to the latest version of the windows updater.
If not, you might want to contact MS about it.

Good point...but mine didn't prompt me to update...it just paused for a few minutes. On screen it said "checking for new version of windows updater" - or something like that! ;)

Mine prompted with a yes or no. I clicked yes. It was like a security warning but was an update.
below are all the updates I have installed and I just went to the update and it said there's nothing to update:

Thanks guy's....yes it prompted me for the update & I clicked yes , just doesn't work  I'm now in the process of digging through all the above updates that BB posted , only problem is that some of them can only be gotten at Windows Update , for instance 2002 Windows XP Application Compatibility Update, April 2002
Read more... Web site. unless you know of another link to get this ?

Anyway I'm going to save the one's I can download & burn to CD so I don't have to go through this again.....or download these again :) thats what I should of done a long time ago

Still hoping that my XP isn't broke....went through Hell getting it re-activated so I don't want to re-install...

Hi there FG, long time no type....... I just downloaded this morning. That is why I placed this post on Win updates (http://www.techzonez.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1447).

Have you tried the Windows Update Catalog?
It is in the left hand pane. You can select your version of Windows. Download all the updates. Burn to CD.

I didn't know you could do that! Thanks for the tip! :D

i heard somewhere that windows update doesn't work because the language entry in IE is erased somehow..
to fix this, go to Tools > internet options , click on "Languages" , click on "Add" and then select your language which is most likely "English (United States) [en-us]" then click OK and OK..

you may need to restart IE for the changes to take place, not sure of this.. but after that, your problem should be solved :)

i hope this helps,
Blackwar

Ok I got it working....M$ support was very nice in helping me :) It seems that there are no Windows Updates for the year 2018 :D thats right my windows sys. clock was broke....kept setting the time right , but date wrong :( I disabled it and downloaded Atomic Clock Sync and all is fine now

If you haven't done so it's best to go to the link for Windows Update Catalog & download then burn to CD , that way you'll always have them for easy install in case of.....crash , burn , reinstall Windows.

Thanks to all for the help :D

I will keep that in mind the next time I get a question about the MS update. *Note to self* remember time screw up with fastgame... for future update woes.

Thats a good one to remember.....you do remember that my NAV 2002 had just expired ? well guess what.....thats right it's now unexpired :o

Is that a word BB.....unexpired ?

I've been to the Future....in the year 2018 there are no updates & all my software had expired  it's good to be back.....2002

Big Booger

unexpired adj : not having come to an end or been terminated by passage of time; "elected to fill the senator's unexpired term"; "an unexpired driver's license"

yes it is a word hehehe
glad to see your NAV is back for you.
what happened to it in the first place?

Well when the clock decided to break and keep resetting to the year 2018 , NAV expired. Now that I have Atomic Clock and the year is 2002 NAV is unexpired.

Actually the clock would reset to a different year at each reboot , NAV only had a couple of months left anyway so I'm getting a new one ;)

Thanks

Sounds like a bad CMOS battery... or something really fishy with the BIOS time...

No the comos batt is new....I use Atomic Clock Sync to automatically adjust the time in XP & all is ok , if I let windows adjust time all is bad. There still could be something fishy...wouldn't be the first time but as long as I have Atomic Clock Sync at least the right fish are being caught :D

Anyway this rig is dual boot & all is fine on the 98se HD even without Atomic Clock

Just another little inconvenience of Life.....
