Yes, however the NTFS partitions are labeled as READ-ONLY. You can't write to them.

If you boot up with the Ubuntu Live CD, it should automatically see and mount your NTFS partitions. They're just ... there.

Ya i plan on using ubuntu 64bit some time in the near future. One of the main reasons i wanted to get it though is that i had heard somewhere you can access a hard drive from a live cd and that would be an incredibly usefull tool for what the tech support i do with my school; they have the wierdest problems. I also wanted to get one of my friends who worships (his words) microsoft to accept linux as a viable solution for himself. All i'll need to do is get WINE or something to emulate the LAN games we play.

This is the irony though i currently dont have the resources (money, higher than dial-up connection) to impliment it on my system. As soon as i get enough money to buy a 40gb hard drive, and the ability to buy and or download an emulator like WINE, i wont be using it.

I just tried the ubuntu livecd and was impressed. It's a really well developed, secure Linux distro. I like what they are doing with linux. The install was a bit more than the regular joe would want to get involved with... *I think they need a better silent install, but other than that, there was nothing that I'd say was terribly wrong or bad.

Sorry to bring up a thread from the grave but I thought I would try Ubuntu out. I don't like Gnome all that much... I'd prefer KDE. But Gnome I could get used to.

Yes I'd say Xandros is a better OS. But Ubuntu has it's merits. I've never tried Xandros' live CD... do they even have one?

I don't recall saying that it was great but like BB says it has it's merits. But since I have been using suse and Xandros I have definitely moved away from Ubuntu.

And yes it takes forever to get those cds from them.

It took about 7-8 weeks for me to get my 10 Ubuntu CDs. Now I have a nice set of coasters.
