View Full Version : firefox screws up my site too

This is great! Now I can't tell whether it's my fault or a bug in the damn browser :mad:

Take a look at this page:
http://www.techjunkeez.com/articles.htm

There's a typical banner ad right below the heading "Latest Articles". It's supposed to be centered. It looks fine in IE and Opera but appears left aligned in 'fox.

Can someone take a look at the code (sorry it's all over the place) and tell me whether it's my fault or Firefox's?

If you get lost in the code, look for focusIN code.

:eek: / :) (mixed emotions)

Thanks, Rev! What version are you using? The latest one?

I'm using 1.0.6 and this is what I get:

Tried clearing cache and reinstallation; nothing worked :(

So it's not the browser, but it isn't the site either! WTF?

edit: Wait! I think I figured it out! Firefox hates me :eek: That's the only explanation I can think of. No wonder everytime I try it, something goes wrong.

the problem may be an extension you are using if you have them
uninstall them to see if it helps.

what if it is spyware that replaced your ad wit their own and thats why its not centered for you......

:confused:

it's not spyware

the text ads appear to have a problem on your site

the jpg or gif banners center fineSo it's the text ads on Firefox because they're OK on Avant and Opera.

Here's the code:

<!--- start of focusIN code --->
<script language="JavaScript">
<!--
var now = new Date();
var uaid = now.getTime() % Math.floor(8640000 - Math.random()*1000);
document.write('<scr'+'ipt src="http://focusin.ads.targetnet.com//ad/id=techjunkeez&opt=hjj&rw=468&rh=60&cv=220&uid=' + uaid + '" ></scr'+'ipt>');
//-->
</script>
<noscript>
<iframe allowTransparency="true" src="http://focusin.ads.targetnet.com//ad/id=techjunkeez&opt=hhn&rw=468&rh=60&cv=220&uid=1" width=468 height=60 frameborder=0 marginheight=0 marginwidth=0 scrolling="no" align="center">
<a href="http://focusin.ads.targetnet.com//ad/id=techjunkeez&opt=cin&rw=468&rh=60&cv=220&uid=1" target="_top"><img src="http://focusin.ads.targetnet.com//ad/id=techjunkeez&opt=hin&rw=468&rh=60&cv=220&uid=1" alt="Click here to visit our sponsor" width=468 height=60 border=0 ></a>
</iframe></noscript>
<!--- end of focusIN code --->Does anyone see code that violates web standards? If not, I'll contact the ad company and see what they say.

Use the ad-block extention. Blow away the ad, and the page looks even better.

After two hours, I solved it at last. First, I placed the banner in a one-cell table which is center aligned and 468x60 so I was sure this would work. But after uploading, Firefaux would give me some $#!t that looks like this:
http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/7655/test2custom9yz.th.jpg (http://img40.imageshack.us/my.php?image=test2custom9yz.jpg)

I didn't remove this one-cell table because I was sure it was my only hope. I kept on changing other things to find the culprit. At the end I found that the problem was caused by two <br>s I had placed before and after the banner for some space. When I changed them to <p></p>, it worked perfectly. Apparently, Firefaux has some problems with <br>. I had no idea this would solve the problem and the only reason I tried it was desperation. So I was like http://img335.imageshack.us/img335/2529/wtf2in.gif (http://www.imageshack.us)

I'm not going to negotiate it with anyone; my final verdict: Firefaux my ass, at least IE understands what <br> is supposed to do :rolleyes:

Everything looks fine in my Firefox 1.0.6 :)Thanks for the confirmation. I guess everything's fixed now. I centered the banner by enclosing it in a cell. And the layout was fixed by simply replacing the <br> with <p></p>.

It looked fine before you did anything and it looks fine after, guess Firefox is versatile ;)

Hey can I turn my Adblock back on now ?? :)

Me joking? Never. :D

I adblock just about every site that I routinely visit.

Hey can I turn my Adblock back on now ?? http://www.techzonez.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gifI couldn't care less about the ads. Honestly, I was planning to remove the banner if the Firefaux problem wasn't going to be sloved. The only reason I implemented ads in the first place, is to get back what I'm paying for host. Of course there is some decent profit but it's nothing considering the time and effort I spend working on my site.
