PphMyAdmin question

I was asked to 'webmaster' the site of a band I joined.
When I looked at phpMyAdmin I saw there were 33 databases. I only have acces to the data from our site.
Is the 'original' webmaster using our databases on our host for other sites? Or could it be that our database is hosted on another site?
In the config file 'localhost' is the host variable, so I'm guessing he's using our databases for other sites. Is this correct?

I believe though I could be mistaken that you are using a shared server plan... and that all those databases belong to different sites... except for the one you have access to.

Web hosts often share servers with several websites on a shared hosting plan. The more shared the more taxing on the server that is hosting all those sites.

If you want your own site on a dedicated server, then you'll have to upgrade to a dedicated server package.

The admins of the server must be real n00bs since PHPMyAdmin can be easily configured to show only the databases of a particular user.
