My wife often checks websites for food safety and she stumbled upon this site above. We buy quite a few vegetables that come from China. So she was curious about the safety of the food and the level of potential contamination.

After seeing these images and the explanations we no longer buy any foods from China.

They are even painting the dead grass green in Beijing:

To get ready for the 2008 Olympics.... unbelievable. The EPA would go ape shit over this in the US...

Painting the grass to look greener!? Looks like the grass isn't really greener on the other side of the fence!

My thoughts exactly Lankan. :D Putting down fertilizer, watering the grass, and plenty of sunshine would have been a far cheaper and more eco-friendly way to solve the dead grass problem.

Soon the grass will die and they'll probably have to replace it with synthetic plastic super green grass. Alot of these happen because of uncontrolled pollution caused by industries. And due to the rapid industrial growth now, it makes it more difficult for the government to crack down on pollution.

I hear ya Josh. It's so disgusting to see corporations not doing business responsibly.. But the government should crack down hard.. there's quite a few people in China and I am sure with a 1 million man team of eco-police they could clean up the entire country. :D

Apparently, according to a recent news article, China, the most populated country in the world, is facing manpower shortage! They have a lack of skilled workers now for its higher technology industries. Furthermore, in the more remote provinces where there is almost no regulation and plenty of natural resources, primary industries that mine coal, smelt iron, steel, nickel...etc the "dirty" industries indiscrimately pollute the air, water and earth.

The government also has so much on its hands such as the Olympics, Taiwan, North Korea, industrialisation, fuel shortages etc... Environmental Concern would be the last thing on their minds and budget.

The European Union has realised the problem of pollution due to the Industrial Revolution and has taken steps to reduce pollution.

But China is just stepping straight into industrial development, making it look like those staccato pictures of London in the early 19th century where you see plumes of black smoke from coal burining industries.

It just makes me laugh that we can't look after what is realitivity a simple design of mothernature.

Sometimes i think to myself that we deserve to existict ourselves for being such a flawed design.

Then i think, one day superman will save us and everythings alright in my peerty head again :p
