My laptop's sound card sucks. Anyone know of any software that can amplify the systemwide volume? I need this because I can't hear s**t on the in-built speakers.

Bout the only way I know of improving this, is using external speakers with built in amplification. I have the same issue on a compaq I own... it's wretched. So I just plug the headphone port into the back of my Kenwood Stereo... then I crank it up. :D

You could try a solution from this page:

Whoa BB, that was fast. I need it when I'm not in my room or when I don't want the whole house to be able to hear me watch south park. I'm checking out those programs right away. Thanks. I'll let you know if I find anything useful.

These are battery powered, amplified, and tiny. :D
