Oh yeah, Boogs, it's just like watching a fictional cop show on TV, only even better!!!! In this total catastrophe, an estimated 10,000 people have died. Did you find 9/11: "better than Hill Street Blues!!!!"? Or is it just the deaths of impoverished, elderly and infirm black people which you find entertaining?

This is shameful, Boog:
TALLAHASSEE - Hundreds of Katrina evacuees who fled to Tallahassee seeking refuge from the storm have been politely told by their hotels and motels to leave this weekend to make room for a football game: FSU vs. Miami.

This is shameful, too:
It's hard to describe. It's something I never could conceive of ever seeing in a major city like New Orleans. It is hard to believe. This is New Orleans Louisiana we ware talking about. We spent the last few hours at the convention center where there are thousands of people just laying in the street. They have nowhere to go. These are mothers. We saw mothers. We talked to mothers holding babies. Some of these babies are 3, 4, 5, months old living in these horrible conditions. Putrid food on the ground. Sewage, their feet sitting in sewage. We saw feces on the ground. These people are being forced to live like animals. When you look at some of these mothers your heart just breaks. We're not talking about a few families or a few hundred families. Thousands of people are gathered around the convention.

I want to warn you. Some of these images that you will see they're very very graphic. But people need see this. The people that are down there have been down there for days. People need to see what it is really like here. We saw dead bodies. People are dying at the convention center and there's no one there to come get them. We saw an older woman, someone's mother someone's grandmother, in a wheelchair. Her dead body pushed up against the side of the convention center with a blanket over it. Right on the ground next to her another dead body wrapped in a white sheet.

People are literally dying. Right in front of us as we were watching this a man went into a seizure on the ground. It looked like he was dying. People tried to prop his head up. No one has medical training. No ambulance can come. It is just heartbreaking that people are just sitting there without food or water waiting for the buses to come take them away. People keep asking us - when are the buses coming. And I just have to say, I don't know.
I suggest you listen to the mayor of NO, Boogs:

Then tell me how it's all such fun.

These people that stream live feed from these scanners or put footage up on bittorrent disgust me. These people are going through hell and people are listening or watching for their own AMUSEM<ENT?!

I have friends down there right now, good and decent people a hair's bredth away from the breaking point, less than that really...and you people are tuning in for the sake of being entertained.

Take a long hard look at all the dead and all the homes smashed, all those dreams and lives ruined. Now try to envision yoruself or your loved ones in that situation.

Are you entertained now? Is there enough suffering to amuse you now?

You people disgust me...

Nikto,
BLOW ME.

Obviously I was joking... If you can't get that, and you took seriously what I wrote about comparing a real life situation to some television drama, then you obviously have something goring you hard in the ass.

I know too well the devastation that they are going through. I myself have lived through 2 violent tornadoes, have been down to Miami to help volunteer to clean up after Andrew...

I also know that listening to these police scanners you get a first-hand report without the fakeness of TV news, straight from the source. I applaud those who put these scanners up on the net. It gives you background information that ABC, NBC, CNN, or the BBC fail to report on.

ANd I have listened to the mayor... but one thing I see that amazes me is a convention center full of young people who don't even get off their asses to help. I see people shooting, looting, fires being set.. One thing I notice about that mayor, he has a clean suit on every time I see him on TV, he looks presentable, and so on... HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE, if New Orleans is such a shithole?

I see law enforcement trying to help when understaffed due to their fellow officers abandoning their job. I see grandmothers being left on the sidewalks to die....

I know it's heart-wrenching and horrible. And all of this in the land of plenty. But this is no where near as bad as the tsunami that hit in Asia....

And in all the crap you post, have you ever posted something positive? Ever?

Some hope returns to New Orleans

# Food and medicine arrives for desperate survivors
# 40,000 patients airlifted from hospitals
# Bush sees destruction -- and meets angry mayor
# But thousands still stranded in homes and centers

For that matter, have you ever posted something non-political? IE related to tech or computing... this is TECHzonez...

i agree boog..i posted the wiki so that people could go there and get an unbiased opinion about whats going on there w/o letting the polotics , that most news shows/stations are centering, on take over.

As far as people being disgusted by others posting these links shows that they really may not care and wish to forget about whats going on, or they're just choosing to ignore it. When you get to see the true nature of human beings in a crisis..that is what disgusts me..looting cus theres no lawful presence and shooting at helicopters coming to bring you food and water...that there is disgusting. Many people probably ignore the news and radio about what happened with KAtrina because they see a side off humanity that we ,as civil people, should never have to see. Besides... if you dont like whats going on...stop complaining, pack yer bags, and goto Louisianna or Alabama with as much food and clothes you can spare. Dont just gripe at others that may be more concerned than you are.

No, i know full well whats going on. I'm doing what i can to help(admittedly too little). Its just that after seeing it on the news finding a live feed feels like its katering to entertain. I offer no excuse for my outbursts other than being frazzled at all of this.

Also for those using the live police scanner, know that there are two broadcasts over the same feed.

Use your audio properties and slide the left and right audio slider to listen to the different streams. THey are different. One is on the left audio channel and the other on the right. :D

For anyone that has loved ones in New Orleans i do believe that www.katrina.com is helping family members find each other..i saw it on a news link. This is really amazing to see too..this woman owned the domain for the last 5 years i think..and when she saw what all was going she decided to help by making a site that would help people find each other amid the chaos. she's also turned down many large offers by other companies to commercialize it.. This lady is a hero in her own way.

lol, this whole thread has been "entertaining" and i didn't even have to tune into a police radio station either :p

I agree it's digusting to listen to other peoples dilemmia's for fun, but if you can, why not?

Bloogs was only joking, and trying to make good light on what is already, a horrible world we live in.

As for Nikto, i haven't seen you post in ages, i remember having an heated argument with you back in 2002, it seems every post you make is a "negative" one, it appears your only goal on this forum is to scan for people you can attack and make a self rightous statement on.

That is just wrong.

Nikto,
BLOW ME.

Obviously I was joking... If you can't get that, and you took seriously what I wrote about comparing a real life situation to some television drama, then you obviously have something goring you hard in the ass.
So this was obvious joking, was it:
I just heard about a 10-57 sniper situation OMG.. this is better than Hill Street Blues!!!!
I'm a simple man, Boogs, so you need to tell me where the joke is. It's not obvious to me. I can't get it. I did take seriously what you wrote about "comparing a real life situation to some television drama", and I can assure you nothing is goring me hard in the ass. Because what you said was:
I just heard about a 10-57 sniper situation OMG.. this is better than Hill Street Blues!!!!
Simple man that I am, I still get the impression that you were finding entertainment value in the disaster of NO. You know: for the very simple, yet very obvious, reason that what you said gives every indication that you were actually enjoying what you were hearing: "OMG.. this is better than Hill Street Blues!!!!" I dunno, maybe the NO situation, y'know, bodies in the streets being eaten by rats, etc., is a laugh a minute, but I don't get it.
ANd I have listened to the mayor... but one thing I see that amazes me is a convention center full of young people who don't even get off their asses to help.
Help who? Help how? They had no food. No water. No sanitation. No drugs. No medicines. Nothing. In extreme heat for 6 days, for crying out loud. A FuxSnooze reporter (and they're not exactly noted for their compassion) was reduced to tears by what he saw at the Convention Centre:
http://movies.crooksandliars.com/Hannity-Colmes-Smith-Rivera-freak-in-NO.mov
One thing I notice about that mayor, he has a clean suit on every time I see him on TV, he looks presentable, and so on... HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE, if New Orleans is such a shithole?
I really don't know what your point is. Are you saying the fact that the mayor has access to clean suits and looks presentable proves that NO isn't a shithole, despite the overwhelming evidence that it is precisely that?
But this is no where near as bad as the tsunami that hit in Asia....
So that's OK then. A mere 10,000 dead. No sweat.
And in all the crap you post, have you ever posted something positive? Ever?
I'd appreciate it if you'd tell me what you consider to be "all the crap" I post. I deal in facts and reality, Boogs, and I call 'em how I see 'em. And I don't find entertainment value in Police scanners in a disaster area where an estimated 10,000 people have died. Like I say, I'm just a simple man.

Then we get this from GimieGimieGimie:
lol, this whole thread has been "entertaining" and i didn't even have to tune into a police radio station either
A total idiot who finds a thread about an estimated 10,000 deaths "entertaining".
I agree it's digusting to listen to other peoples dilemmia's for fun, but if you can, why not?
Yep, it's disgusting. But it's entertaining. So why not? It's fun, goddammit.
As for Nikto, i haven't seen you post in ages, i remember having an heated argument with you back in 2002, it seems every post you make is a "negative" one, it appears your only goal on this forum is to scan for people you can attack and make a self rightous statement on.
I remember the exchange, GimieX3: I distinctly remember saying: "I know you're young, Gimie, but for God's sake grow up." You were an idiot then, G3, and you're still an idiot now:
I agree it's digusting to listen to other peoples dilemmia's for fun, but if you can, why not?

Nikto,
Your posts are going beyond trollish. YOu are luring people in to respond to your negativity. I am closing this thread. You don't deserve a reply.

And just so you know what definition of a troll I am referring to:

An "Internet troll" or "Forum Troll" is a person who posts outrageous message to bait people to answer. Forum Troll delights in sowing discord on the forums. A troll is someone who inspires flaming rhetoric, someone who is purposely provoking and pulling people into flaming discussion. Flaming discussions usually end with name calling and a flame war.

A classic CureZone troll is trying to make us believe that he is a skeptic. He is divisive and argumentative with need-to-be-right attitude, "searching for the truth", flaming discussion, and sometimes insulting people or provoking people to insult him. Troll is usually an expert in reusing the same words of its opponents and in turning it against them.

I think that fits you Nikto and deep down, you know it's true.

Kindly tell me which of my message (sic) you consider outrageous. And why. More to the point, answer the question: where is the joke in this:

And I will take the bait... for the last time.

Concerning the troll:

You failed to take into account the entire definition. Read it again. I think it suits you.

Concerning the matter over the Hill Street Blues post. I said it in a moment of shock. I heard the comment, it reminded me of Hill Street Blues as a kid. That show, in case you failed to view it for whatever reason, was a good comparison. Perhaps what I wrote was in bad taste.. But it was in no way a serious post of pure delight.

I didn't jump for joy, and sprinkle fairy dust in the air praising destruction of New Orleans or the death of people. I simply made an offbeat comparison of a TV show and reality... perhaps instead of saying better than, I should have said as worse as.... sue me.
