Heya guys,

I have a hardware problem.... YIKES !

Recently I just purchased a new comp.

All seemed well until the fan on my SP 500 watt psu stopped working.

I contacted the shop and they offered to send me a replacement psu (sp 400) while I send the other back to be inspected.

It got here - I put it in and got it all working..... only the fan isn't working on this one either !!

I'm begining to think it may be a problem with my motherboard which supports cool n quiet, but I have it disabled in BIOS.

My MB is an A8N-SLI Deluxe http://www.i-tech.com.au/products/1279_Asus_A8N_SLI_DELUXE_nFORCE4_SLI__2xPCI.asp

I'm also running an Athlon 64 939 Venice core chip.

I've taken both PSU's out of the case and run them indipendant of the computer to no avail.

I can't work out whats going on, outside of a bizaar coincidence ??

Thanks in advance for anyone who can solve this riddle.

So the PS doesn't even work out of PC ? hmm

I checked on your MB and didn't see any problems of this sort, keep us posted if you find out.

Will do Fastgame - Thanks for having a look for me, appreciate it.

The only thing I can think of is either the second replacement PSU fan was damaged on the journey here - or - the Antech Smart Power PSU's don't like somehting on my sytem ( e.g. Cool and quiet tech.

I read something about a psu fan problems with duel core chips running SP2.

I'm not running duel core, but I'm running a 939 pin chip, so I'm duel core compliant.

Anyway, will post my solution.

Thanks again Fastman ;)

O.K. after some serious inspection and stuffing around, I have been informed by Antech that Smart Power fans in Smart Power Supply Units, only come on after the hot pot reaches a certain temperature.

I have been sending power supplies back and forth over the country for the last month.

The company I bought it off had no idea, and I had no idea.

It had to go all the way back to Antech to be cleared and inspected before they mentioned - "Oh - btw - the fan doesn't come on til it gets hot".

I feel very silly, but think this whole mess could have been solved with a simple phone call.

:o

The power supplies are smart, not the people that support them.LOL.:D Glad you got it sorted out and it will serve as good information here at TZ.

Interesting....All my PS are Antec's, guess they don't have smart fans.

Thanks for the update ;)
