View Full Version : Folders

All of sudden, the folders functions in OE stopped working. I can't use the move/copy to folder icons (they're dead). I can't create a new folder.
I have WinXP/SP2. I rebooted, still no joy. Anyone else had this problem?

Try these:

Go to Start > Run. Type regsvr32 urlmon.dll, and click OK.

Repeat the above for each of the following commands:

regsvr32 mshtml.dll
regsvr32 shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 browseui.dll
regsvr32 msjava.dll

Compacting the folders sometimes fixes OE issues:

In Outlook Express, go to File > Work Offline. (prevents any messages from being downloaded)

Then go to File > Folders > Compact All Folders (this process may take a few minutes).

Close OE then re-open it.

Already compacted, then did the 'run' things. Still no good. Should I reboot? Does it matter whether or not OE is open when I do the above?

Can't find an uninstall/reinstall click at MS. Their check says I am up to date. If I try to download SP2 I get to here:

For the benefit of others, I got a fix elsewhere as follows:

Problem is a corrupt ID.

Fix:

Create new OE ID and import all folders, add-bk, accts., etc., then delete old ID once you're sure the new one is working OK.

Also: disable anti-virus auto-check on email... which is OK providing you have some other safety checker facility in place to stop downloads of infected mails (as I do... SpamKiller) or read your mail on the web before downloading.

Also: compact everything weekly, remembering never to shut OE using Task Mgr while it's doing it.

Thanks, folks.
