View Full Version : The Truth About GoDaddy's Economy Plan

Background:
In late November i purchased two months of hosting from GoDaddy.com . The whole reason for purchasing hosting was to host a web site to serve a podcast from. I would offer a podcast of about 70 mb every weekend. Some of you may know which site i am talking about, i choose not to spam my link and stick to the facts. I thought the 5GB of storage and 250GB of transfer plan would be great. There is no way i would go over 250gb of transfer in a month, and there is no way i would ever fill 5gb of storage. I thought wrong. This is not a publicity stunt. I just want GoDaddy to admit they cannot provide what they promise. Some of you may be saying "OF COUSE you are not going to get that much transfer for that price". I understand, that is common sense. But the fact is if they OFFER that much hosting for such a low price, they should PROVIDE that much hosting for that price.

The Problem:
At first i hosted the whole site off GoDaddy's servers. Then when the PHP became unstable i switched to only hosting the podcast off of them. Now i cannot even do that. The downloads will cut off for users after 3-6% of the download. GoDaddy would not acknowledge the problem. They blamed everything else but themselves. They said it was the users' ISPs, my fault, or just the way lift was on a shared server. They even tried to get me to upgrade my account when i hadn't even used the allotted storage and transfer i paid for! See for yourself. Sorry for the lack of formatting but i wanted to get right to the point.

Wow! I had narrowed down A Small Orange, 1and1 and GoDaddy as the three companies that I would chose from to host my site later this year. Thanks for that bit of info.

The really funny thing about this is Digg.com deleted the post about it from their site.. so in reality it's not ONLY users getting posts on the front page... they remove stuff too... and most users never know anything about it.

I recommended a friend to go with Godaddy, and now I am regretting it.

Godaddy is one of their site sponsors I think.

Feel for ya BB - The whole ordeal seemed very frustrating.
I hate it when they can't duplicate a problem and assume it's just you.

You kept a cool head alot longer than I would have. :o

Your last response was my favourite, tell it like it is bud. ;)

Thanks, I had almost made my decision to switch to GoDaddy. But I've never had problems this bad with my current host, so I guess I'll be sticking with them.

My hosting was coming to an end and Godaddy's economy plan looked very tempting, and since Godaddy's a well known company I didn't think there service would be crappy. Guess from time to time, we all forget the saying "if something sounds too good to be true, it isn't".

As for where I've been... the things I do keep me more than occupied. Don't mean to sound like a snob; I really miss this place and try to pay a visit whenever I can :)

Nowadays, there are lots of company oversell. My previous experience with Dreamhost offer 20 GB and 1TB bandwidth for their $9.95 per month plan. Guess what? They have some hidden "CPU Resource Limitation" which you are impossible to use that much unless you are hosting a file download site. If you wanted to host a site with PHP script, you have to go with some other host.

This is always true in choosing a host:
"What Get What You Pay For".
