Hello Everyone, let me introduce myself. I'm new to Techzones, and wish to be a fully pledged member by posting on a regular basis and helping others. I'm not too bad with Computers, I have an obsession. I can do Operating Systems 'Windows 95,98,2000, XP and Server 2003', not forgetting building/repairing systems. I also enjoy web design '(X)HTML, PHP, MySQL' and a little Macromedia Flash Animation...
Anyway, I'm here to ask the 'Top Docs' here with a puzzle I can't solve. I've tried tackling the problem from all aspects but seem to fail.
Around a year and half ago I custom build myself a new system as my previous one was becoming a cronk. It consisted of a ASUS A7V400-MX Motherboard, AMD Athlon 2800+ Processor, 512MB DDR-RAM, 120GB Hard Drive (IDE1 - Master), 40GB Hard Drive (IDE 2 -Master), DVD-RW (IDE 1 - Slave), CD-RW (IDE 2 - Slave), and not forgetting a AGP 8X, NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Graphics Card.
I installed Windows XP Professional SP2 on to the 120GB Hard Drive and it worked sweat as a nut no trouble what so ever. Over the previous two years it's had 2 Formats due to slight problems I had with the registry.
Well, I recently noticed when trying to play a game that is accelerated or use Direct3D, it fails. This have never happened before! It's worked well, all my screensavers would work the lot. Now it seems everytime I try to preview a 3D screensaver such as the Plus! Space or any others accept the default Windows XP, it comes up with the error message 'Could not find any compatiable Direct3D devices'.
Anyway, I started troubleshooting the problem to try correct the issue I had encountered, so I first made sure all the NVIDIA Drivers was updated to the latest version and patched from http://www.nvidia.com. Further more I made sure DirectX was updated to DirectX 9c. I then tried and the problem continued, further more I removed all the NVIDIA drivers and made sure all traces were removed using a tool, I then reinstalled the original. Same continued, then repeated the same process again trying the latest, and it still continues...I've tried booting the system up with all other basic drivers disabled and still nothing.
This is one puzzle that have completly 'Buffled Me.' I've checked the DirectX settings by going to "Run-->DxDiag" to bring up the dialogue. It said 'No Problems' found with the DirectX Files but for display I had the following: Direct3D functionality not available. You should verify that the driver is a final version from the hardware manufacturer.
The final thing I should include before I bore all your socks off is that the same trouble persists on all three of my systems with a completely difference combination of hardware devices, they are on a Network using a NETGEAR Router. They are just connected as a Workgroup and not a Domain. All workstations share similar software.
If you could please try to work this out, I would be very grateful. The only thing I can consider now is another "Format", But I really don't want to give all the Machines another Clean Installation.
