View Full Version : BIOS upgrade problem

My ASUS A7V8X-MX MOBO is presently running v1003 Award BIOS. Noticed yesterday whilst upgrading other drivers that they are up to v1008 so decided to flash the new version to no avail. Tried both the auto-flash component accessible via Alt-F2 during POST and tried creating a separate DOS boot disk with relevant BIOS upgrade file on it. Neither method seems to work.
Anyone else had this problem? Did you sort it & how?
Any flashes of inspiration out there?
It's probably not a must-have upgrade, but one would have thought that something useful would have been implemented over the spread of 5 versions.
Thanks in anticipation.

Look in the bios and make sure Bios Write Protection isn't enabled. Also read the changelog on the new bios, if it doesn't address an issue (you're having) or add an improvement, then no sense in flashing :)

I'll try that tomorrow thanks. Checked the logs earlier and noted 1 major and 3 minor(ish) changes that I definitely want so if I can get it to work I'll risk flashing it
Thanks again

No write protection surprisingly. And you were right (as I knew all along) about 'if it ain't broke ...' . Went for it and the flash froze half way through - oh woopee-do. Pure fluke that I got through POST to Windows. Still tempted to give it another go, but prefer a system with MOBO extant rather than bin fodder. Live and learn :D

Doesnt Asus have a webupdate Flashing utility??

Make sure you follow the flashing instructions correctly... usually you have to boot with the flash boot disk, then run the program.. ie... "flasher.exe bios_update.file /install" (just an example commandline)

Then, it usually says you have to shutdown, clear CMOS battery, reset into BIOS setup, optimised results, then shut down again... then reboot... and check the POST for updated version number...

Well, thats some of the experiences i've had, ofcourse it may be different to everyone...

Let us know :D
