View Full Version : Now that Shrink and Decrypter are gone..

DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter were, IMHO, the best DVD backup programs available. When I went on vacation or on long trips I would always take back ups of my favorite DVD's with me in the event one was lost, then the original would be safely at home and I would not have to re-purchase it.
Now these two programs are no longer available (they are out there somewhere but updates to them have been stopped for over a year now).
Given that these programs were recommended to me here (Thanks!) I am wondering what others have done in the absence of Shrink and Decrypter.
Are there different programs out there that do the same thing that others are now using? Are updates still available for Shrink/Decreypter? What gives?
Thanks
Halder

DvdShrink Link
Software links below:

DVD decrypter:

Now some tools that do the same job:
I use ANYDVD instead of DVD decrypter (it's not free but it's updated all the time)
http://www.slysoft.com/en/anydvd.html
And they have a 21 day trial version.
DVDFAB is another one much like Decrypter:

As for DVD shrink alternative:
http://www.dvd95copy.com/ (not free)
CloneDVD:
http://www.clonedvd.net/ (not free)
Elby Clone DVD 2:
http://www.elby.ch/products/clone_dvd/index.html (I use this one, same maker of AnyDVD!)

Shrink and decrypter both work fine for me. Are you have troubles with them? Or you just want software to use that hasn't been abandoned?

No, I'm not having any problems with Shrink or Decrypter, I love these two little programs. However, given that they are no longer supported they will become dated soon and may not be as effective in backing up newer DVD's.
But Thanks! for your links and advice, this is very helpful and I will be following
them up today.
Once again, Thanks,
Halder

I like Clone DVD for making ISO backups, it is a pretty simple program that gets the job done.

Even though these are still out there and the author of DVDShrink has moved on to more uh hmmm...legetimate endeavors who pay him alot more...I think you will start to see these two programs start to fail on the unencode/encode and burn. *I have run across several people here in this area that are having problems. *It is not that it is those programs that I am seeing it is something a little more malicious...I am thinking another root kit of some sort. *Anyone else run across this just overnight?

DVD Shrink & DVD Decrypter may not be supported but they're still the best at everything except the part where DVD protection is.........????
DVD Shrink & Decrypter work fine and always will as long as DVD43, AnyDVD, RipItForMe are around to do the ???? that Shrink & Decrypter lack ;)
