I had a similar problem and it turned out to be a faulty DVD drive. I bought a new drive and it installed perfectly. Hardware incompatibility might also be a problem. My moterboard has completley died and that was the cause of vista rc1 not werking on my puter... Cause____put the hd into other puter (slower) and formated then installed from the same dvd copy that I tried in other dead puter (downloaded from ms)...werkZ great. I happen to be using it as I type. I like it. Has problems with games....but so what, ms will try to fix and hope fully will before they release rc2!!(OR FINAL RTM)
