In a discovery that has stunned even those behind it, scientists at a Toronto hospital say they have proof the body's nervous system helps trigger diabetes, opening the door to a potential near-cure of the disease that affects millions of Canadians.
Diabetic mice became healthy virtually....
They find that in Type 1 and Type 2 their treatment involved injecting mice with the ingredient in hot chili peppers to help kill pain sensory nerves in the pancreas that are responsible for blocking islets that produce insulin.
Once they kill those nerves the mice started producing insulin as if they didn't even have diabetes.
If this holds true for humans, it can mean an end to the numerous complications that diabetes onset triggers and will spell relief for millions of people.
