Full disk encryption prevents hackers from accessing your windows partition and thus will prevent them from booting your computer to install trojans or extract your password "sam" files.

It also makes it a pain in the ar5e when anything goes wrong and you need to access your data for say recovery purposes. Think twice before you encrypt your disks.

yes, recover would be a pain and something I would love to test once the need arises. I do want encryption on my laptop as I use VPN and keys to access the work servers and database as well as my password wallet etc....

it is very nice to have full hard drive encryption as it makes the notebook useless to thieves once the bios boot is locked and the hard drive cannot be prodded for info using slave or bootable xp discs.

Always backup your keys and always save important info on other media.
