Hey guys this is a general question hopefully someone can help me answer.

Someone has givin me a Pentium 4 2.4GHz processor from a PC that was scrapped for parts. However the writing on the processor is worn off so i wanted to ask how i can easily determine what socket this processor is used for?I think it's a 478 but not 100% sure.

Mine's a Pentium 4 and it definitely uses a 478. DRB

As far as i can remember a 423 only went up to 2.0 GHz, so yours will be a 478

You can use a 478 on a 423 board with the aid of an adaptor, but it will be limited to the max fsb capabilities of the board.

Sounds like a plan, that P4 will make a great Linux pump :)

Yep that processor with 1Gig of Ram could make a nice little beast of a PC :D
