Codec

Hi

My friend has given me some div x files, but said I should download/run klcodec279 and ffdshow-20020923 for it to work. However, I get an error message when I try to open both of these saying: D:\klcodec279s.exe is not a valid Win32 application.

Any suggestions please?

I don't play divx videos, so I won't be able to resolve specific problem you might have. Maybe other TZ members will join the discussion.

There used to be a mega codec pack floating around... do a search in the forums and there will be plenty of times its mentioned... sorry i just cant remember the full name atm... i'll get back to u :D

Might just try Dvix Player (http://www.divx.com/divx/windows/). They have a free version and it works great.

Ffdshow should be all you need to play divx or xvid files. Make sure your installing the stable release of ffdshow (ffdshow-20041012.exe). klcodec279 never heard of it, I'd recommend uninstalling it, i know it is not needed to play divx files. Or google XviD-1.1.0-30122005.exe that will work too, though most videos are xvid do to divx being commercial codec. If ya dont have sound when ya play the file download and install ac3filter. You could just goto www.divx.com and download the divx player. Though if you installed any of those mega codec packages you've probably hosed your system.. Uninstall them.

If all else fails and your ready to give up on codecs, just google vlc player. Its a player that comess with many codecs built into the player itself, its pretty popular.

Windows self-extracting package. (9MB) is what i would use.

I've downloaded this and to play a disk, I just go file open and d drive and click on the film. Is that correct?

if so then it must be a batch of faulty disks, as none are working!

When I put a disk in, it tries to open Window Media Player.

I'm trying to copy the files from the disk to my hard drive first, but get this error message Data error (cyclic redundancy check). Anyone know what it means please?

CRC (Cyclic Redundancy Check) is a method of detecting errors in data transmission. A CRC is data that is sent with a block of data, that when received by where the information is being sent to, the CRC can be used to verify if data was all received correctly.

Cause:
This error message could be generated by any of the below reasons.
- During the transmission of the file it became corrupt or bad
- The file was sent inappropriately
- The device being opened from is bad or contains errors
- The file itself is bad or the program attempting to open the file is bad.

Solution:
CD issues
If the file is being opened from a CD-ROM it is possible the CD is dirty or scratched causing read errors. If the CD was burned it is possible that it was burned improperly.
- Clean the CD-ROM
- Re-burn the software
