The unknown hacker who claimed last week that a tool he'd created could generate valid Windows Vista activation codes has admitted that the crack was cracked.

"Fact is the brute force keygen is a joke, I never intended for it to work," the individual identified only as Computer User wrote on the...

I still can't work out if this it really is a joke or not? Is Hacker claiming that it really does work, but now saying it doesnt, or does it just not work from the start??

Gee hoaxes can be more confusing, didnt a guy fake his death for 25 years then come out and say "Ha, fooled you all?!"

rumor is that this guy created a bogus brute force keygen and based off of his prior achievements.. many people reported it to be as working. And like a stink bomb it spread like complainers who smelled it. The author states it was done for a joke and it creates random numbers of some sort...

I have heard that a group known as Paradox had beat the activation by using hacked OEM computer bios's emulated to hoax the operating system into believing they are installed on an OEM Dell or Asus computer and thus granting the whole activation process without contest.

this is very scary news for anyone buying a new computer in an openly demanding priced market. You may not ever know you bought a computer with a cracked operating system and you paid $100 for the operating system to be included on your new computer.

True Egg, but that would only be for OEM cases? And isn't microsoft running an Amensty, where, if you have a receipt for "legitimate" purchase, then they'll send you an good cd ;)

But i agree to for the normal ma/pa users, there could be a some exploitation for a quick buck.

Microsoft has a very good policy to help victims of counterfeit software and they are very happy to follow up on vender's that tend to make a quick buck by using pirated software. All new computers in my town now are all operating on windows vista software and from my understanding is that you cannot tell the cracked installed version from the real 100% genuine product when they are installed on a computer. The bios emulation will work on 100% of motherboards installed in every single computer OEM and name brand in the world regardless of manufacturer.
