Is it possible to take a JPG, GIF, PSD etc... use it in 3DS Max to create a wireframe ?

I have photographs of buildings, that I would like to use to make wireframes. I thought this was possible, so I went and got 3DS Max v9. But to my avail, I cannot seem to figure out how to do this.

Now, I am starting to think I was given bad advice. Was I? Or do I require a bit of a helping hand to do what I want?

Thank you, for reading this. I hope I made sense.

I remember there used to be an add-on or small 3rd party app, that would almost be able to reverse engineer a 2D photo into some wireframe intersections and joints.

So, i think it can be done.. but sorry, i dont know the name of the apps.

Hello Denyse,
I had a similar question about converting 2d images into 3D a few months ago. I asked one of my instructors if it was possible, the reply I got was “Yes” it can be. But the application to do this is a bit expensive. I do have a few web links for you to check out and see if they help you or at lest point you in the right direction to archive your goals.

I hope this helps you out.

I found this package that is really interesting. Commercial use is forbidden however you might want to take a look for experimentation.

And another interesting package.

Hello Denyse
I just found a book that may help you out with converting 2D objects to 3D models. The book I found is called Modeling a Character in 3Ds Max By Paul Steed. I just recently found this book reference while attending my school. I hope you find this useful, it has an excellent step by step and how to section, Illustrating how to make 2D images into 3D models.

Link to the online book Modeling a Character in 3Ds Max By Paul (http://books.google.com/books?id=w_KLe1AylhEC&dq=+Modeling+a+character+in+3ds+max&pg=PP1&ots=RgEyk7c3iq&sig=YFI4a-k3SsUvamuFQDphLkuVuf0&prev=http://www.google.com/search%3Fhl%3Den%26q%3D%2BModeling%2Ba%2Bcharacter%2Bin%2B3ds%2Bmax&sa=X&oi=print&ct=title#PPP1,M1) :)
