Great Britain's James Toseland won race one of the World Superbikes European Grand Prix at Donington but failed to finish in race two.
Toseland led home Troy Corser and Max Biaggi in the first race, while Noriyuki Haga edged Biaggi in race two.

Toseland now leads the standings by just five points from Biaggi.

Pole sitter Troy Bayliss skidded out early on while leading race one and lost most of the little finger on his right hand as a result of the crash.

Bayliss was taken to Derbyshire Royal Infirmary in nearby Derby for plastic surgery but should feature once more in the next round at Valencia in two weeks' time.

Toseland dominated race one and was leading race two when a bike failure forced him out.

"To say I am disappointed is an understatement because the double win on home soil has eluded me once again," said the 26-year-old Honda Ten Kate rider.

"I felt really confident about winning the second race but, as I was shifting through the gears into Redgate, I felt a problem with the engine which caused it to cease."

Haga overtook Suzuki's Biaggi on the final corner of race two when the Italian ran wide, with Corser finishing third.

"It was my father's birthday today so I wanted to win for him today, that was all I was thinking about," said Haga.

"In the first race my rear tyre was not working very well but everything was perfect in race two."

Italian Biaggi was left to rue the mistake that cost him victory in the last race - a win that would have put him level on points with Toseland.

"I am smiling on the outside - but not much. On the inside I feel different," he said.

"I was running second and then managed to overtake Nori but I always knew he was on my back and on the last corner I made a totally stupid mistake.

"These things can happen but they should not."

Ouch!! I cant imagine the pain for GRINDING a finger off! but two-weeks to recover seems optimistic?!

Good work by Nori Haga! What an exciting rider - very determined this round.

Corser, perhaps rueing his switch ?!
