View Full Version : Hard drive installation Stripe April 10th, 2007, 12:41 PM Just an oddball question.... Installing drives vertically, yeah or nay? The reason I ask is that I got an odd ball case and there is a chamber that allows you to install 4 drives vertically. Anyone know of the pro's and con's of this? In my old Lian-Li case the hard drives were placed vertically. Don't think it makes any difference at all. cash_site April 10th, 2007, 13:20 PM I think these days it should be fine... there used to be myths about the extra pull of earths gravity giving you extra seek speed or vica versa and making it slower etc Or more susceptible to side way knocks and crashing the head into platters... Check the HD manufacturer for recommendations on installation. I have my SATA2 drive in external case mounted vertically on its side, no issues, but it is a little noiser? Stripe April 10th, 2007, 16:41 PM LOL I never thought there'd be an issue, its actually the first case though that I've seen a HD cage that mounted vertically (trust me, took me an hour trying to figure out why they gave me a HD have that I couldn't mount drives horizontally). bhxtyrant April 10th, 2007, 17:30 PM I have never had any issues from installing Hard drives vertically.I've came across quite a few PC's that do this i have seen it in alot of Dell PC's but never heard of any issues from it. cash_site April 11th, 2007, 02:16 AM If you have to use that specific case, then I'm sure there would be no issues.
