Trying to help setup a friends computer with DSL service from Verizon. Verizon is next to impossible to get a hold of. Anyway, following the directions to configure the modem, I am asked to choose between DHCP or PPPoE, before I can go to the next step. How can I fgure out which to check ? Thanks, Mike

This is a link to the Verizon self installation page.
It contains instructions specific to modem type.

efc, thanks for the reply, but I was already there. It talks about the installation CD. He does not have / can not find the CD if he got one several months ago when he originally went to Verizon DSL service. This modem is actually a new one. He had connections problems, and Verizon sent him this new Actiontec Wireless DSL Gateway Model #GT704WG. The only disc that came with the modem had the manual on it and Adobe 7 on it. There was no installation CD included. I thought I would only have to configue the modem by following about 6 steps, but one of those steps asks me to choose between DHCP or PPPoE.

I would venture a guess at DHCP being the correct choice. DSL providers vary depending on what part of the country you are in. Some areas Verizon uses PPPoE and some don't. Mine doesn't.
You're best bet would be to contact Verizon support (yuck) and get your area specific settings.
