Kaspersly Update

I have been trying to update the free version of Kaspersky for the last three days with no success. Some files are downloaded, but I eventually get the message: UPDATE FAILED : INCORRECT SIGNATURE. and now I am getting message from Windows XP that my virus protections is out of date. Suggestions please. Should I remove Kaspersky and then re-download it ?

Just found out at the Kaspersky forum, that updates are no longer available for this free version of Kaspersky that I guess was related to AOL somehow.
Will probably go back to the free version of AVG that served me well in the past.
