CD Driver

My mates was given a laptop it all works fine apart for the CD driver. The CD drive refuses to open, if you manually try it the light comes on as if it was about to open but nothing happens, same if you try via windows explorer? The cd is installed correctly, just can't figure out what it could be.

Any suggestions?

grab a pin and look for a little hole that will open the drawer manually when the pin is pushed into it. sounds like a faulty drawer.

Also, if it is a removable drive, take it out then reseat it. See if that helps. If not, see if you can boot into the bios and try to open the drive there.
