View Full Version : Is there a best anti-virus/malware program? d000hg January 7th, 2008, 02:52 AM I want to protect my home PC. I don't mind spending a little cash on a proper program, but I would want something which doesn't cripple my system or reduce performance. For a single PC, what's great? I want to protect against viruses as well as any random crap from the internet. Any other tools are a bonus. What's good? FastGame January 7th, 2008, 03:39 AM If you run XP/Vista in LUA (Limited User Account) and only download files from trusted sites you would be safe without AV-Antispyware. The free AV-AntiSpyware work just fine, they also run light. AV's: AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic, Avast, AVG AntiSpyware: SuperAntiSpyware, AVG Anti-Malware If I were to pay for something it would be AntiVir PersonalEdition Premium, NOD32, Kaspersky, Norton. If you're worried about system slow down (IMO the AV's I listed don't slow things) turn off real time protection and scan things on-demand. It also has one of the best detection rates, least false positives of all AV's. The interesting thing to me was that every one of them were rated 100% effective. It seems good.
