I have a question regarding Windows 95 and some upgrades to it.
Does anyone know if it is possible to use the windows media player versions 7.0, 7.1, 8.0, or even the beta 9 with WINDOWS 95?
If so how do I get it installed?
Second thing,
Any way to get internet explorer 6.0 installed? I have 5.5 with Sp2 installed, as it was the highest that specifically stated windows 95 compatible in the system requirements.
This system is a NEC PII 233Mhz, 96MB ram 4 meg Nvidia Riva graphics, on board audio etc...
It's old and it's a Japanese OS, or else I would upgrade it.
Thanks for your help.

Thanks Reverend,
Now if I could just get IE updated, and change the icons and taskbar in windows 95, it will be much better.

It's for my work PC. They are still using windows 95 to connect to the internet... Don't ask me why. It is good though as it brings back memories of the old days..

Booger, if you are really up for nostalgia , I think I still have a copy of Windows 3.1. Why did I bring this up. It just reminds me why I hate Bill Gates. I kept that copy because my Win95 Upgrade required it for install.
Reverend did you ever consider a forum titled “another reason to hate Bill Gates and Microsoft”. Bet it would be popular.

I bet it would be popular too but now that we are part of Microsoft Windows XP Expert Zone, I'm not sure it would be ethical of us to create said forum.:p

Rev,
It worked! Thanks about that. I also installed Windows Messenger 4.6 as well, and Real Player 8.0.
Now if I could just update IE to 6.0...
Anyone know how to trick the installer for that one?
Thanks

I still use 95 on one of my machines.Very simple registry.Very easy to tweak for "speeed".Its actually faster than anybodys xp machine that I've seen. Not as powerful, mind you...but very fast.
I have most of the latest stuff or close to it on there, but IE 5.5 is as far as I can go w/the IE.
Oh...I'm Jan...new here.Hi everybody! :)

The only thing now about windows 95 is the fact that MS have abandoned it. It is no longer being supported and updates are no longer available.
It works great on older hardware. MS should continue to support users for as long as they own the product.. but then that would be rather costly for them to do so, which would be the OS would have to be more expensive..
Perhaps if they did a pay for support service that might be helpful.

Ok M$ dont have to continue to support win95, but they could at least keep space on their server for the win95 updates, so if you had to reinstall you could download the updates.
Which reminds me, where did I put that 486DX100 ....
