I use "NetCaptor" as my main browser other then IE.

True, it is not a browser, but an add-on that uses IE'S engine and code, but it's still super kick ass!

It's IE 6.0 SP1, with all the features you wanted moved over from Opera.

It uses it's own Interface, and own settings, so i concider it my alternate browser other then IE :p

Ever wanted a fast and stable browser with the compatibilty of IE, give you extra features and options, and still work with most appz such as download managers that intergrate into IE'S browser?

Look no further ;)

Check it out:

www.netcaptor.com

I also use Opera 6.2 beta alot of the time too.

I download every build of Mozilla, and still i think it is poor compared to the rest.

None, cause the other browsers won't let you access Hotmail and they choke when you get to Secure Sites.

Same here Conan

Sure it wasn't just a one off?

Try NetCaptor Conan, it uses IE as it's engine, it's basically a new face lift with new options that IE don't offer.

You might be impressed ;)

Recently released version, it's a wonderfull browser. The only issue about it is the overly programed-for-IE pages, that sometimes complicates opening webpages. And even for that kind of problem, there is an extension that lets you open a link with IE instead. Also, all the extensions make this a very customizable browser indeed, and a little archive to download also.

That's my humble opinion,

You have to download "Tabbrower Preferences (http://www.pryan.org/mozilla/site/TheOneKEA/tabprefs/tabprefs_1.0.0.xpi)" extension. Extension homepage in link (http://www.pryan.org/mozilla/site/TheOneKEA/tabprefs/).

This extension allows you to change your tabbed browsing settings, in Tools>Options adding Tabbed Browsing element. There you can change how to manage tabs in firefox.

G' luck!,

If you are using Firefox 1.0 you simply right click on the link and select "open in new tab". Another way to utilize tabs is to customize the toolbar and ad icons for "New Window" and "New Tab".

Using Firefox only, I really don't know. What worked for me was installing two add-ons for MSN. The first one is
Messenger Plus! (http://www.msgplus.net/) from Patchou, a very useful one indeed. And the second, and the one that does the trick, is StuffPlugNG (http://www.stuffplug.com/) that from a number of actions, has one specifically "Open hotmail Inbox in default browser". Maybe for that single action is a lot of installation, but I have found those add-ons very useful.

If I can find an easier way to do that, I'll be posting it here,

note - you must have messenger plus installed first.

when installing messenger plus read the eula carefully and agree to the terms that best discribes your intent.

be carefull as you could install spyware software.

Speed Tweaks? FireFox loads faster than IE? I would have converted to FireFox but I acess sercure sites everyday. Is it really faster? It takes 3 secs to load the techzonez main page for me even after flushing DNS, clearing files etc... which I do eveyday. I tried FireFox once before like 5 months back. I know there's the final version out but I'm lazy to install to try unless its really worth the effort.

Not faster but about the same. Safer though. I still fire up IE whenever I run into sites that weren't coded for Mozilla.

Conan, I've said this many times. It is not Mozilla that requires special coding. It is IE that has been developed to use bastardized coding. If the coding follows standards it will look great on Mozilla. Mozilla Dedicated to Standards (http://www.mozilla.org/why/support.html)

Good choice Conan....same here...the only thing I have found that bothers me is on my website right clicking is not allowed but firefox lets a viewer copy the source code...it does show the block for right clicking but still allows the right click menu to come up....need to work on that.

GimieGimieGimie
December 6th, 2004, 10:43 AM
Looking at the voting, it appears that FireFox is the only real aternative to IE in most peoples eyes, and i would tend to agree.

I've been trying out FireFox for the last month or so, just because the security problems with IE are just a JOKE now, and i'm being f**ked over on a daily basis because IE keeps letting spyware and other crap download onto my computer without me even knowing!

Even with a serious ad-blocker like Admuncher, and the latest Norton Anti-Virus, and ALL the latest XP upadtes, IE just doesn't seem to have any prevention security at all.

So i was forced over to FireFox against my will, because i loved the speed and simplicity of IE, and i've got to say, FireFox is a great browser, far better then Mozilla in my opinion.

I've tried Opera and all the other IE engine based browsers out there, but the later is just as useless at security as IE because it uses their engine.

I used FireFox for a month so far, and no problems at all rendering pages, and i go to loads of different places, i even got a download plug-in for Flashget, my favourite Download Manager :)

But the other week, FireFox done something terrible to me!

It flashed up some information about Profiles on my screen, and it wouldn't let me past until i created a new profile, so i created a new profile, and i assume it logged into it. But now i've lost all my settings and even worse, my favourites list! :(

About 20 favourites was lost, which really got on my nerves, i've looked extencively into FireFox's settings, but could not find this "Profile" lark anywhere, does anyone have any information about this? I would like my favourites list back!

I got pretty pissed at FireFox after this incident a week or so back, so i'm trying the latest version of Opera now, which ain't too bad, it seems to be just as secure and stable as FireFox, and has no problems rendering my pages so far.

That said, FireFox was a blinding browser, security was top notch, and no spyware, viruses or software made it's way onto my computer, which to me is the most important thing in the world :)

I had a problem with the loading speed, and the amount of resources FireFox took up, but apart from that, it was the perfect browser in my opinion :)

So i would recommend any one security minded, and this should be EVERYONE, who wishs to stay safe while browsing the Internet, while keeping the simplicity of IE, to try their hand at FireFox, apart from my one off incident, i think it just gets the job done, and done better then IE ever could :)

December 6th, 2004, 15:18 PM
The odds are that your favorites are still there. They are only visible when using the original profile.

To check available profiles go to Start>Search

Choose "All files and folders".

Search for "profile".

One of the results should show the mozilla icon and be identified with mozilla/firefox. Open that file. It will allow you to see and change profiles.

I had that problem too!.... And went nuts about it. The first solution that came to me was to open the folder where my profile preferences were saved, copy all the files and paste them in the folder of the new profile, but after a while looking for a simpler solution, I found a easy way to open the profiles of Firefox.

Go to 'execute' and write firefox.exe - p. That automatically opens the profiles as in Netscape and you can choose default to recover all your preferences. I'm clueless how to perform that in other OS besides Windows but someone else can guess from this.

After that, I could no longer stay angered with my Firefox.

Hello Laylah (Star wars?) :p

I tried it your way, but for some reason it didn't work, an easier way of doing things, is to make sure files are not hidden, and then proceed to C:\Documents and Settings\Paul Evans\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\

Once there, simply copy over the largest bookmark (bookmarks.html) over to the ACTIVE profile, which will have the smallest bookmark file.

Make sure FireFox is closed though, and wallah, everything is back! :D

firefox can't get. I got the browser function only. There were too many

things Firefox could not get. I may go to Maxthon [MyIE2]. I'm tired of turning

off Firefox to use IE for things Firefox can't get. IE can get things by geussing

at them. JMO :)
