I have done several clean re-installs and have the same result. While on line, while scrolling on a web page, i will freeze ( three -four times .)

I have had this p3, 650 mgz, 320 ram, toshiba laptop computer (win 98 se) for 2 years with no problems. I recently did a clean re-install and now this occassional scroll freeze when going from up and down.

It makes no different if i use the mouse key or the keyboard key to page scroll.

It happens with ie 5.1 or 6. It happens with ie and opera. I have downloaded and all sort of ways to fix the problem. I even called toshiba tech support and no solution.

Any suggestions? Remedies? Should i upgrade to windows xp and if so, which one.

otherwise- i am going to buy a new laptop. <yea right!... grin>

Definitely switch to XP. I can't remember the last time my computer hung or even paused with XP. As to choosing between Home and Pro it's really up to you and your requirements. Check out Microsoft's page for comparisons.

thanks for your suggestion. if i was to upgrade it would be to xp pro.

but i am relunctant to do so- learning the ins/outs of a new op sys. i am tired of learning.. actually burned out. i was around from Dos 3.0 and its subsequent upgrades and all the windows versions 3.1 to 98se.

it is funny, i am avoiding trying to upgrade to xp. but i would like to figure out what is the problem that i have.

does anyone else have any idea to consider why i freeze while scrolling up/down while on line?

hi cityman

right click on an empty space on your desktop and select properties

goto settings and drop your resolution and your colors to 256

see if that helps

if it does i would get the latest drivers for your graphics display

what is the model number?

cheers

Egghead- your recommendation worked perfectly. i switched to 256 colors and voila.

i do not know which- toshiba does not make it easy- but i either downloaded and reinstalled a old or new display driver and that is that!!

i do not understand the logic of how you deduce the display driver was the problem. Any hints?

Many Thanks
