U.S. electronics maker Hy-Tek Manufacturing will use next week's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas to launch what it claims is the first wide-screen, all-in-one entertainment PC, which packs a DVD player, CD player, digital video recorder, and 125-channel television tuner into its 30-inch flat-panel display.

Slated to ship in the U.S. later this month, the Tek Panel 300 will carry a recommended retail price of about $6,500, a company spokesperson said. It is powered by a 2-GHz Intel Pentium 4 processor and runs Microsoft's Windows XP operating system, allowing it to also function as a desktop PC.

Its electronics are buried inside the chunky LCD panel, which is five inches thick and can hang on a wall or be left free-standing. The system weighs 42 pounds altogether, is operated from a wireless keyboard, and also boasts a 120GB hard drive, 512MB of DDR SRAM, and an ATI Radeon Graphics accelerator.

It can display video from sources including NTSC TV, cable, satellite, DVD, and the Web. Users can also plug in gaming machines, video cameras, and other devices via 10/100 Ethernet, 1396 Firewire, and USB ports. The sound is from Bose MediaMate speakers embedded in the unit.
