This is where I have my present sigs........
efc January 12th, 2003, 17:32 PM I am going to add a signature using www.villagephoto.com. Let's see if it works.
efc January 12th, 2003, 17:35 PM Back to the drawing board. I will have to study more on this process.
Tinker January 12th, 2003, 19:42 PM Can we help you with anything efc? On using a sig that is...
:D
Big Booger January 12th, 2003, 23:12 PM http://image1ex.villagephotos.com/pubimage.asp?id_=1358556
There is a photo I uploaded to villagephotos. Works great!
Now one thing, they have a severe bandwidth limitation. So, you might want to reduce the size of your sig as much as possible.
Just a thought.
I also noticed in your villagephoto link, that you mistyped the URL, it is http://www.villagephotos.com
you forgot the S.
ALl you have to do is sign up, log in, and upload your link. Once you have uploaded it, then highlight the URL they show you at the bottom, copy and then paste it into your USERCP, profile, SIG,
MAKE sure to use the image tags [img] and [/img}
So an image would look like this in your sig,
[img ] http://www.somethinghere.com [ / img } with no spaces and the last symbol being the same as the others ]=}
hope that helps,
BB
efc January 13th, 2003, 00:43 AM Finally figured it out.
Tinker January 13th, 2003, 10:43 AM Nice work efc...
Keep it up.......

efc January 13th, 2003, 13:44 PM It was last night. Can't figure out the problem. There are several tag strings on the host page. I have tried each many times.
At one point it was working. Now it is not. Leaving town so I can't work on it now. Will put more effort into it later.
I am open to suggestions.
Tinker January 13th, 2003, 13:55 PM I did not care for Villagephotos myself. Check out post #2 (http://www.techzonez.com/forums/showthread.php?postid=20481#post20481) . This is what I am using for hosting my sigs at this time, no problems yet..
efc January 13th, 2003, 13:58 PM Strange things are happening. Sig photo now appearing on my browser. Nothing changed in settings.

I'm not fond of Villagephotos either.
Big Booger January 13th, 2003, 21:19 PM they have strict bandwidth limitations... that is the only reason I dont use them that often.

nkisberg2000 June 21st, 2004, 08:26 AM http://www.2and2.net - hotlinking? yes max file size? 4mb bandwidth limit? no.
scoots June 29th, 2004, 20:45 PM Had to stop and comment on this thread.
Be careful with any site offering unlimited bandwidth, unlimited this, unlimited that.
Do you think they themselves have access to "unlimited" anything? Nobody has unlimited bandwidth. Not even God (he's on a dual OC-48 I heard).
If you want your pics to be around in 6 months, stick with a host that's been around awhile. Most stable hosts have either eliminated, or restricted free hosting because it costs a lot of money. How can imageshack be giving away all this bandwidth? Granted, they might make a few bucks off the Google ads they're running, but its not going to be that much (and how much sense does it make to advertise OTHER image hosting services on an image hosting site?)
Anyone on a techie site like this oughta know that 'net connections in data centers costs thousands of bucks a month - tens of thousands for bigger companies, hundreds of thousands for the really big boys. How long can a company like imageshack continue to spit out free hosting? Its costing them something...
Anyway, I saw in imageshack's TOS that hotlinking isn't permitted. I'm not sure exactly what they're saying here, but it sounds like they can turn you off at any time:
"...images residing on ImageShack servers NOT be hotlinked or embedded in large-scale websites, however, they may be linked to (VIA TEXT) to images located on the dynamic my.php pages (please contact us, and we may be able to arrange something)..."
At least with VillagePhotos.com, Andale, Inkfrog, Boomspeed.com, or the other for-pay sites you know what you're getting, and you're not violating any ToS to post your sigs.
I'll stick with VillagePhotos.com (http://www.villagephotos.com/)
phishhead June 29th, 2004, 21:18 PM I use http://www.forumsigs.com seems to be fine for the few forums that I have sigs with
lynchknot June 29th, 2004, 21:59 PM No problems with Imageshack at all - and I have many screenshots images in very high traffic sites (mozillazine)- never seen them go down.
Yes, I read their TOS but they do not specify how much is too much - much like comcast - they won't even tell me how much bandwidth i'm allowed.
I have a few backups just in case
FAQS - # Does ImageShack(TM) allow direct linking?
Direct linking is embedding an image into a message board, personal webpage, or ebay auction. Yes, this is allowed. - http://www.imageshack.us/faq.php
I don't need permanent hosting of images for screenshots anyway
# Will the images I upload ever be deleted?
Images that have not been accessed in over a year will be deleted. This is by no means the maximum storage time, but rather the minimum. This means that as long as people view your image (wherever it may be), it's clock will reset. So, if someone looks at your image on day 364, that image will not be deleted for another year.
Village photos give you 5mb transfer a day - will not last at mozillazine. i had tiny screenshots at Firebird help that were dropping because they were over 1GB of transfer. I think it was netfirms (or boomspeed?) that allowed 1gb a month - the images were coming down after a couple/few days.
scoots June 29th, 2004, 22:15 PM Yes, Boomspeed stopped offering free accounts I think.
A GB of transfer? If you can get away with that for free somewhere let me know where...
Also, the ImageShack ToS says they don't allow direct linking to "high traffic" sites. Define that ??!!?? That's the part that made me nervous.
ForumSigs.com:
"Free accounts that use over 300mb of bandwidth during a month may be temporarily disabled."
That's 10MB a day, which isn't too bad... most small sigs aren't going to add up to that much.
(TY for the ed., I got post happy)
lynchknot June 29th, 2004, 22:21 PM Their FAQS state otherwise - and I hotlink everywhere and often - without issue
All I know is it works for me at a high traffic site. Netfirms is no more I guess. We all used to use them here but they kicked all of us.
I use what I can get for free and use backups so I don't have to pay. Village photos is not enough.
*edit - depends on how many "small sigs" you got up and how many times a page has been visited.
