View Full Version : Run Kazaa through a Corporate or Government Proxy
Big Booger January 27th, 2003, 06:52 AM I did it and it works flawlessly. Have a look at my guide and try it out for yourself. Any questions, feel free to ask and I will do my best to help you out.
The reason I compiled this guide was because I didn't see much information out there that was simple to use, had screenshots, and worked... This works, at least it does for me.
Sorry, but my site doesn't allow hotlinking of files. You can view it HERE (http://bigbooger2.tripod.com/id5.html) however. It is listed under the GUIDES downloads.
Enjoy,
BB
zipp51 July 6th, 2003, 21:26 PM BB thanks, sounds good but I'm a bit confused. What is the benefit of running Kazaa through a gov't or corporate proxy?
Sunday Silence July 6th, 2003, 21:51 PM Thanks m8 can generally use all the help I can get! Links working!
efc July 6th, 2003, 22:57 PM What is the benefit of running Kazaa through a gov't or corporate proxy?
The party at the other end will no longer be able to see your IP address. They will instead see the IP address of the proxy server.
Big Booger July 7th, 2003, 00:25 AM and many corp/gov firewalls block kazaa so you cannot download stuff at work :D
I recommend downloading in moderation at work, a file here, a file there, but not continuous file downloading as they will catch on quick.
:D
Big Booger July 7th, 2003, 05:58 AM The link works now. I just tried it. If any of you want this file, and cannot get it, please pm me or email and I will send it to you ASAP.
ima, I would send it to you but I don't know your email address.
cash_site July 7th, 2003, 07:34 AM This is an excellent guide, can in very handy for Uni computers :D Free BroadBand ;)
Big Booger August 17th, 2003, 15:15 PM If you are a member of TZ, you can also download the guide Here (http://www.techzonez.com/modules.php?modid=8&action=show&id=14)
:D
I should have posted the TZ link up a while ago. Sorry about that.
:D
It works well, just remember, don't do Kazaa all day long on the corporate network, or you'll be certain to draw attention to yourself.
:D
Madamant December 14th, 2003, 12:42 PM Does it work with kazza lite?
Big Booger December 14th, 2003, 13:43 PM Sure does.
:D
rik December 14th, 2003, 18:01 PM Just make sure that your I.T. Dept won't can your "ace" like mine would if they caught you...
Big Booger December 15th, 2003, 00:50 AM Yeah,
The funny thing is if you know you are on a LAN...
and let's say they've given you an IP of
192.168.0.178
Just use another number
192.168.0.144
192.168.0.13
Or something like that. I change my number everytime i come into work. They don't have a clue what is going on :D
Sometimes you'll find that someone else is using that number when you try to input it, just select another number.
Simple as that.
It masks your real number. But make sure your computer name is not identifiable.. because they can track that too when you connect over the LAN.

What do you assign as your computer name?
Big Booger December 15th, 2003, 04:49 AM I usually use Japanese names in Kanji so they would never suspect me of doing it. Like right now it is Shigenaka1
:D
Tomorrow it might be Murakami2000 or something like that.. but not in roman characters :D
There is absolutely no way for them to know who is on the network at any time when you do this, because the IP and computer names are being changed all the time.
I also dual boot and have my "legal" dutied PC partition with the appropriate LAN settings and computer name. Whenever I use this service for any number of things, I use the other partition with the fake IP and computer name.
But this step is not really required. Any time you want to do legit work, just use your original IP and computer name.
SupaStar December 15th, 2003, 21:31 PM What happens if your IT department check everyones instantaneous usage and finds an IP downloading at a few hundred MB/s for the last half hour? They then grab the offending IPs MAC address, cross-check that with their asset list and find that it's coming from the PC in BB's office :p
Then you might be screwed...lol
I doubt they'd do this cause, no offence BB, but they seem to be a bit slack over there ;) I mean how many IT departments let you dual boot your PC...hehe...or is this little more of your devious trickery ;)
In our deparment, every MAC address is tied to 1 IP, meaning there are no free IPs floating around for the likes of BB to use. If your MAC address isn't in the DHCP, you dont get no IP :D
Additionally, all user accounts are restricted preventing modification of network (and other) settings.
But I dont mind your dual-boot idea BB...seems a good way to keep out those prying eyes :)
Big Booger December 15th, 2003, 23:46 PM Yeah it is not locked down here like it would be in say a more restrictive state-funded environment.
But you also gotta remember that the socks2http program runs over port 8080, or whatever your proxy server port is. So it just looks like internet explorer traffic :D
If the ask me, I'll tell them I was running a windows update SP1 or something like that.
:D
I seldom download files over 100MB... I mean they do monitor the speeds because it effects the whole network.
In fact most of the stuff I download is like music and a few programs that I need.
Don't over do it and you won't even warrant a second glance from your IT department.
But if they wanted to progressively pursue me, then yeah, the mac address would probably give me away... unless I could find a way to mask that.

That's the one! Moderation is the key :D
cash_site December 16th, 2003, 15:34 PM soo, would this program also work for waste behing proxy? would have helped during the year ;)
Oh well, no more uni internet :(
SupaStar December 16th, 2003, 22:09 PM I think that it might, not sure how that would affect security though given the port change.
kame_sg August 23rd, 2004, 07:38 AM can someone email me the guide at

h16h October 25th, 2006, 18:14 PM Okay, ive only been dealing with this stuff for 10 years so veterans please addon or correct.
DO NOT USE THIS GUIDE IF YOU ARE IN A CORPORATE/GOVERNMENT OFFICE
I dont care what lil ip changing tricks you have but I am personally responsible for numerous terminations at my company for "smart-asses" who thought they could get around the system, As long as yourre plugged into My Network, I own you. If you have to "follow a guide" to gain access, odds are you dont have knowledge of routers/firewalls and the knowing of how packets travel across the network. There are reasons why these apps are not allowed in a work environment.
Again, save your job, feed your family and kids. Peace.
phishhead October 25th, 2006, 18:18 PM Owned!
Big Booger October 26th, 2006, 04:00 AM It worked for me. ;)
Good luck, and remember your network administrator most likely is monitoring your connection. If possible you might want to try changing your clients IP address upon every connection to the corporate network. Lucky for me, I have over 256X256 different combinations of IPs to choose from and I use a different one everyday. Despite this I know if a smart administrator really wanted to they could see just about everything that I download. That is why I am very strict at what I download and make sure it is legal and relevant to my job position.
From my guide.
