There is a little window that pops up when you click on to download a file. On it is a box that you can uncheck that says somethinglike; Ask this each time I try to download.
Well, I unchecked that box (curiosity killed the cat ) and now I have no idea where my download goes. It now longer allows me to choose where the file goes.
This is the download pogram that come with Windows XP. All I want to do is re-check that stupid little box.

Thanks for any help,
Paul

Thanks you your reply, Conan.

The box still dosen't pop up to let me choose where the download goes. Got any other ideas?

By the way Conan was always one of my favorite characters of all time. Not only do I have nearly all the comic books, I also have most of the paper books (with the Frazetta covers).

Thanks again,
Paul

You could try this registry edit:

Specifying default download path
To specify your default download path - be sure to backup your Registry first, and only do this if you're experienced with it!
Open Regedit, and go to this branch:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER | Software | Microsoft | Internet explorer
Right click the "Download Directory" value and choose "Modify." Enter the path for the folder you want to use as your default download folder. Restart Windows/I.E

That works 100% :p

Or you could use a download manager like
Getright (http://techzonez.com/comments.php?id=1612&catid=2&highlight=getright)

Let me know how you get on with this.
:D

By default all downloads go to my documents folder. See if your downloads are there, as they will be as long as you never did tell windows to save a downloaded file elsewhere....

good luck

<By default all downloads go to my documents folder. See if your downloads are there, as they will be as long as you never did tell windows to save a downloaded file elsewhere....<

Nope, not there. I usually save the file in a special folder that I created during that download. For instance, when I download Sims stuff, I have a special folder for Skin files, one for House files, another for Object files, etc. This makes it real easy to find them later and not to get them mixed up with those already unzipped and installed.
I have checked all my normal folders for things I can't find but they are not in any of them.

I still can't believe that it's that easy to mess up. Is this some kind of oversight? Surly there is some simple way of finding that stupid little box and just re-checking it. I really like XP and have been satisified with it since we upgraded from '98. It's simple, fast and dependable, but come on, this has to be something that can be un-done without much trouble ain't it?
I have Dap (Download Accelerator Plus) and it is set as the default but for some reason some files still find the stock (?) download program. I hate it, all the thought they put in XP and they overlooked this very important little thing.

Well thanks for the help and if you can think of any thing else please tell me,

I gave you the simple fix in my post above. :D

Click start,
click run
type 'regedit' without the quotes

Then do as I wrote above. :D It works, trust me, and it will show you where your current download directory is.

Also, have you tried right click an image or file and click save targe as... then select a name and a location. I think that will also make it the default location in the future.. not 100% sure about that though.

Just another idea.

Then

Try this, Tools, Internet Options, Advanced, then put a check on Notify When Downloads Complete. It will then open up the location wherever your download went to.

Big Booger,
Sorry I didn't reply to that directly, I did try it. I've been in "Run" a couple of times, I can't remember why. I changed it just like you said but the same thing happened next time I tried to download.
As for right clicking, well the site I was trying so desperatly to download from does not allow it. If you right click a little message box pops up and says, "Left click only". I have no idea why.

Conan,
Thanks, I have a zip program that pops up when the download is complete but when you click on it it says that the file cannot be found. (Zip a lot).

Ok, a friend of mine found the answear. I tried it, restarted the computer and it worked. Here it is is anyone ever comes in with this problem again;

The fix was; My Computer, Tools tab, Folder Options, File Types, choose Zip Files from the list and hit the “Restore” button.

I'm thinking that it may have been the Zip program all along. Now the little window pops up and I can once again choose where it goes AND change it any time if I want with one little click.

Thanks a lot, I do appreciate your time guys and have a good day. I also would like to say that this is one of the most polite forums I have every been to.

Paul :smoke: Feeling much better.
