Very extensive guide complete with links, step by step how to, and two ways to do it. Impressive to say the least. Yours truly is giving this one a shot very soon.

If you have problems with it you can always do a driver rollback.
I HAVE UPDATED THE LINK ABOVE. IT NOW WORKS AS OF 5/3/2004

It doesn't work :( you can't turn your SB 5.1 or Audigy into a Audigy2...the reason is (digital to anolog converters) DAC's, the SB 5.1-Audigy *"might"*use some of the functions of the Audigy2 with the conversion but they don't have the DAC's of the Audigy2 so they'll never sound as good...

I took this route last year with maximum reboot.
it worked great for me because of the better drivers
wih the sblive drivers my computer crashed playing lrge soundfonts. with the udigy drivers thy worked flawlessly.
with the release of creatives SBLiveDrvPack
the problems were fixed and i never used the audigy drivers again.
i now have the audigy2 platinm EX model and love it!

It does work. There are some hardware limitations.. but it will add extra things that your current SBlive or Audigy card doesn't feature.
Q: What new features can I get out of my old SoundBlaster Live!?
NO -- 24-bit high-resolution record & playback (hardware limitation)
NO -- EAX ADVANCED HD
The above are hardware limitations, the below are what you will gain by installing these drivers.
Enhanced sound quality
Enhanced dynamic range
Ability to use Creative MEDIASOURCE
Enhanced Music Playback
High Quality CD Ripping (up to 320kbps for MP3 and 160kbps for WMA)
Personalized audio and MP3 CD Burning
and much more... (except DVDAudio, Diagnose and SpkCal)

Worked like a charm, turned my Audigy Platinum eX into an Audigy 2 Platinum eX. Took a while for me to get this working and went through several drivers to complete it, as I had a lot of unable to initiate sound card probs. The A2 software kicks ass and has improved my sound quality by about 40%. I can utilize all the software without any glitches, and can now do a lot more with my current sound card, like improved use of my 6.1 speakers.
