I'll be returning the server to full online 24/7 operations tonight. I have to do some re-arranging in my home, but after that, it will be up and up and up.. never down, unless there is an error with the game.

That way you can all play anytime you like. If anyone else would like to host a US server please Please PLEASE contact me ASAP, and we can talk about it. The only requirement would be a faster internet connection, anything around 1.5mbit would do I think. I have an 8mbit ADSL connection, that should be upgraded soon, within a few weeks.. to a 100mbit bidirectional fiber plan..

I have no idea why you cannot connect to the server. It even shows up on Gamespy for me.. :p

I was hoping to soon start playing quite often with you guys and perhaps link up with another site for some major destruction and serious fragging.

If we can get MOHAA to take off, it would be nice to later add some other games to the lineup, but we'd need someone to host them. Perhaps at first we can get a gaming time setup during a time when we are all awake or available.. or at least the majority.

Saturday seems to be the best for all, usually, as most of us work the 9-5 Monday-Friday.

Just tried connecting via Gamespy....the servers not listed. Went to MOHAA - Spearhead and tried connecting via the server listing....timed out as well. I then tried to connect via IP (IP was gotten from pinging techzonez.dyndns.org. IP = 218.224.51.22) and it timed out as well.

Well,
The last thing I will try is opening up the server through my DMZ, which effectively will open every single port up on that machine.. this is a safety issue, but the machine is running in guest mode, without any admin priviledges. Further, I have the machine isolated on the network.. no ICS, no file or printsharing, etc..

So it should be ok...

I will set this up tonight, and if one of you latebirds could help me to troubleshoot it, that would prove very useful.

dont have Live for Speed installed on that machine yet. In fact the only game installed is MOHAA and the Spearhead Expansion

I am sure it is my router configuration. I sent the router in for repair.. before that I had spent some time opening the ports, and setting up the DMZ.. and got it working with a friend who could test it immediately...

I will have it up and staying up definitely by Saturday.. again I am sorry about the delay. If I only had a brain..

I've decided to do a reformat of that system, fresh install of all the components. I haven't a clue why it doesn't work...
But hopefully after a reformat it will be smooth sailing.

I need to set up my server again.. but if someone else can set one up it would be better for all, especially if you are from the US or Canada.. Japan is on the opposite side of the earth, and the pings are wretched for all.. unless you are in Asia.

But I will try to set one up as we need to get in a do some battling.

As far as connection ? I don't have a clue to what is needed for a great game sever, remember I went from smoke signals to dialup last year ;) but it sure would be nice for the sever to be under my desk so I could get a ping under 250 hehe

I could try to set up one in the next weekend. Maybe work on it Friday afternoon and have it running That night. I barely shutdown my PC anymore. or I could set it up in my other PC if it is possible to set it up behind a router. Sure BB could throw some light there.

I'd offer my server but I think everyone would be mad....I dont think MOHAA would run good on a 400mhz with 96 megs of ram.

Hopefully that will change here in the next month...I should be able to get more RAM for it. Once there, all I need is a new chip and we have a backup server.

BB what would you suggest for a server that runs only a Mohaa game dedicated?
I have a spare Celeron 566 Mhz with 256 RAM, and that would only run MOHAA if I set it up behind the firewall. That way I could log to the server myself. If I run it in my own machine, how am I to connect to it :p

I am running updates for XP right now.
It took me longer to get it up for the same reason I had been absent at the forum (I went out last night suddenly, and I didn't came back until this morning :p )
So I am working on it at this very moment.

About the firewall, you need to open up the Mohaa ports or create a DMZ for the server so that users can see the server through your firewall.

Anyhow, this weekend ended up being a lot more busy that I thought and I didn't even had time to search around. I basically stated a server (From inside the game), then I check with Sygate the ports it uses, and I forwarded those port to the correct machine.
In other words, I didn't even know which ports should be open. IT is only 12203?

A DMZ is a way to allow one internal IP address in your network complete access to all ports and the internet.

well, I saw a lot of people today playing on the server
When I first logged in, there were like 6 people (Speaking German) and I got kicked out :p (By accident I kill a team member), and they had 500 ping. I went to the server and the poor CPU was running @ 100% all the time. Symantec Firewall was taking it all, after I closed it their ping dropped to 250.
Well, I cannot find the server myself from the list, but people connects to it so it has to be listed somewere, right???
We had with Lynch a little incident, because there was someone bothering, but I didn't know the command to kick. I finally found it just when the guy leave :p
Next step would be to install 2.11 to 2.15 patch, and some mods for us to play:D

Honestly DEHC, you don't need sygate, an AV, or anything running in the background when your server is online. If you have an AV it slows down disk read and write access by like 50% or so.. IMHO.

I have a celeron 680Mhz, 256MB PC133 ram, etc.. the CPU is always at 100%.

Best thing to do DEHC is to run a dedicated server, create your on config scripts inside the MOHAA main folder, and launch the team.bat file, freeforall.bat, tow.bat, or the objective.bat

you'll want to edit the config file so you can name your server, change the settings etc..

It takes some time roughly about 30 minutes or so to configure the dedicated server and then you're all setup!

Hand over that IP and I'll join for a rumble or two!

Besides MOHAA I only have the AV, which I will turn off now :P
besides that, I had seen some good pings. Mine is always good, since instead of using the public IP I use the LAN IP, giving me full 100 Mbs bandwith :D , but when I did the trial using the public IP first time I was in the 460 :rolleyes:

Couple things you also might want to check on.

Disable the XP theme.. it just slows your PC down. you can improve the performance quite a bit by right clicking my computer,
click on properties, click on advanced tab, performance setting tab, then click adjust for best performance.


Check your pagefile and make sure it is installed preferrably on a second HDD, if not, try it on a separate partition.


Last thing you might want to do is defrag the machine, run all updates, including the video card.

Your server should run much better and you can set your max users to around 24 or so. At least I did and it seemed to work ok with a dedicated server.

If I tried 32 players my server would crash after 30 :P
I needed more ram.. 512MB would be the minimum for a 32 player server, AFAIK.

Well, ping during the day could be high since I have other bandwith hungry apps. For example I have a Mule around my PC. It is in a different PC, but it will drain bandwith. I noticed it can decrease ping for as much as half closing it, but if I do, I won't get anything anymore ;) .
THat is why, I was interested into having certains times to connect, so I can close it, and we cna get pretty good pings.
I haven't tested too much the involment of the mule on it, since I only found players, when I wasn't running it, or no players when I am running it :D
Anyway, if I see any of you guys logged in I will jump in, but I don't check too often since I am using the same monitor (Digital conector for my PC, and Analog for the server) so I have to be switching buttons all the time (not easy swtiching between modes), but if you IM me or PM me we can run some frags.
My times, During week days I can after 6 PM and until 12 so that is 6 hours where I can be invited any time. Just PM me for my MSN login.

PS: I noticed that my ping without other players and having the mule is pretty good (running from the Internet and not in the LAN)

Cash, are you behind a firewall?? I didn't disable ICMP request (none of them) but they might had been blocked by the firewall.
Here is what happens, to the MOHHA server I only opened the ports necesary to play, the rest goes to my workstation. When you tried pinging I might had the software firewall up, and when superstar pinged, I might had it down, since I close the firewall when I play because it will consume too much RAM with all request made. Yesterday I also discovered the server is being listed thru GameSpy, but not thru the list inside MOHAA, and I had been playing fine for 3 hours. My borther had the highest ping yesterday from his house with ~144 , but my other brother was playing DIABLO II in the other PC at the same time. Average Ping that I see is 60~80. Sometimes some players have higher 150, but I don't see much from there

PS: The server is always online. MY 2 computers are on 24/7, and since the server with MOHAA only runs MOHAA there is no need to restart it:D
Next Friday I will apply patch 2.15, and then it will be complete. From there I only have to add mods;)

I just connected. All players were suddenly disconnected.

Today I was playng and we were all kicked out.
I think the problem is the router. It isn't routing to the port sometimes :confused:
Now, I also have a problem with the MSN that is driving me crazy and it might be related.
The MSN connects, and then it disconnects. Sometimes it can be connected for half a minute, 2 miinutes, half an hour. But I don't know when I am disconnected, since it looks like online, until I try to change my Status
Is my router going crazy, and ready to die? :(
I did a firmware update not so long ago, so it is updated.

also I figured why I couldnt ping you, you have only opened the Ports for MOHAA not other ports to do a normal ping. I can ping the server through gamespy which pings the instance of the server running not your comp.

I was able to connect just a moment ago, but I was having a problem where it would start loading the map then disconnect me. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but had the same issue. Then, suddenly, I was able to connect no problem. Unfortunately, the only things I got to shoot at were a few windows. but I'll go in a few and see if there's anyone there.

are you doing this in the game? I remember you told me you were running the server inside the game? If so I think you have to put in your RCON password first.

yes, it is a dedicated server. The setup of the server I was doing it starting the game first. I just learned to create batch files yesterday to speed up the process :p

Anyway, I found a work around the problem. If I open the server with the batch files I can use say. So, I will be using the batch files. They don't have the GUI as the game does, but I can at least send admin messages:p

so you were running an in game dedicated server. With the batch files, it should speed up the server, as you don't have to load the GUI :D

Glad to see you got it worked out. You know to edit your config files so that you can rename the server, get listed on Gamespy, allow or disallow voting, add or subtract new and old maps, change the health decrease rate, spawn times, etc..

Each batch file you create should have a corresponding config file. The config file is very powerful as it even allows you to change some of the physics of the game, like run speed, shooting speed, ammo.. I even heard it allows you to change the gravity of the game, so you can have a floating fight too :D

however, I don't know how to change the physics..

Well, I fixed the say problem that I had. I learned a bit how to launch the server faster using the batch files with the cfg. I fixed my sig problem (I hope)
So now we have to fix Stripe problem, because some of us can tell exactly how many hidding points there are, since we spent 2 hours there yesterday :p
C'mon STRIPE, we want to play other levels with you!!!!;)
And lets see if we can organize another TZ event as yerterday. Maybe we should make an easy to view calendar for TZ events, or post it in the Calendar, but we have to agree in a time. C'mon guys, more is better in this game. 1 on 1 can get really long. I can spend hours chasing Lynch or Phis around :p

Hey man, I just happen to type fast around, and I am multitasking (real type, not like windows:p ) So I like to read and kill at the same time.
Anyway, I wasn't doint it with intention of killing you. If I see a player chatting I wait until the finish. + I saw you once, and I thro a graneade behind you, so you could be aware I was around. See?? I am not so mean. I didn't even hurt you with that graneade, but I remember that because of the noise I did, Stripe came and fill me with lead;)

I ended up with 77 points in that game. I think I have an itchy finger, since I killed myself a lot when finding a player in front of me. I wouldn't even try to back up a little:boom:

I think the best is trying to reduce the number of deaths. I can kill hundreds of people while getting killed at the same time. But if you are a true warrior, you want to get killed as little as possible while inflicting as much damage on the enemy as possible :D

I also hate the free for all.. I am much more of a team player so you can coordinate attacks.

Defense is as much a part of the game as offense :D

Your ping would be around 10 like mine. I love when I have 3 of ping;)
Now 4000 miles will be expensive Cat5 too, since you have to put a repeater every 300 feet, so lets use fiber instead :D
I work with fiber at work, so I am kind of familiar. I can do the instalation if you want. I just have to learn to polish the ends because I was too lazy to do it myself:p

I also left closed all programs, so it will be dedicated to MOHAA tonight

Students are the main target of that research. Now about older gamers, let's drop 14 down to 6-8.. that is still excessive, and as you point out, how does one have time for the other things. There are some who are seriously addicted to gaming and I think that is horrible.

Normal gaming 1-2 hours a day is more than enough, but with online gaming, it is really hard to get your thrill in after 2-4 hours hehehehe

So I ask you all, how many hours a day on average do you spend playing games? Me, it varies from say 1-2, up to 6-8 on the weekends, depending on what is going on in my life at the time. This weekend i spent around 4 hours playing rise of nations and Pro Driver (thanks reverend for the demo link). I beat rise of nations so I doubt I will play it again. :D

I really need to stop playing games, but in Japan, in the countryside, there isn't much to be doing.. :D

My pattern is pretty similar to yours BB...1-2hrs a day...but not usually everyday...a few more hours on weekends.

But it's all relative. The last few weeks I've had exams...so naturally my gaming has gone down to 3-4hrs a week.

During holidays it tends to go up exponentially :p However I'll never turn down going out with my mates for a video game :cool:

I usually don't play that much. I actually find myself tweaking/organizing a lot more than playing games. When I get tired of the tweaking/organizing, I'll jump into a game until I get sleepy then go to bed.

I think that there are good/bad points of video game playing. Good points are that they do provide a stress relief as well as improving eye/hand coordination.

The bad point is when parents place thier kids in front of games so that the parents don't have to interact with the kids. I think this "lack" of guidance and interaction in the childs life is one of the leading causes for problems in society.

I am a hardcore gamer that only has time for 4 hours a WEEK!!!, and they are usually in the weekend. I barely have time around TZ. I don't have time to study. I spend all my time deleting SPAM email from my inboxes. DAM SPAM :p
I have to learn to organize my time.

I think computers are good, and actually can bring out curiosity and learning process in kids, but like everyting in life, it has to be measured, because it can become similar to an obsecion. I would say, PC is great for rainy days when kids cannot go out and play ;)

We cant ignore that Computers are becoming more and more in our life, like Internet LG Refridgerators, PDAs and game consoles... I think it has to start in elementry schools, that technology is good for productivity for work, but you should also play sports, join a club etc

I think I am a good role model. After all I don't play more than 10 hours a week (If I am REALLY LUCKY), even thought I spend a lot of time with computers, but hey, that is my job. Still, nothing beats going out to drink some beers with friends, or better yet, going out to dance (I haven't done that for a long time. I have to find a GF)
I will teach my kids to use in moderation, and also to buy their own computers. :p HEHE, I want them to learn the value of stuff. Money doesn't grow in trees ;)
