View Full Version : Windows 2003 Server 180 day Trial Downloads
Big Booger May 1st, 2003, 01:29 AM 32 bit version (http://download.microsoft.com/download/5/2/b/52beb621-1a93-41bb-a57d-ea5c7aef7f76/x09-22207.iso)
64 bit version (http://download.microsoft.com/download/4/c/c/4cc5a2fe-c8cf-4f58-8d4b-b21e76f5bcf9/x09-45916.iso )
These are free from MS. They have a 180 day expiration, but after 180 days, it might be time to do a reformat, and reinstall for another 180 days :D kidding.
It's worth the download even if you are just curious about the software and want to try it out.
So you are asking where do I get the key?
Order your free kit:
https://microsoft.order-5.com/windowsserver2003evaldl/product.asp?catalog_name=MSTrialandEval&category_name=Microsoft®+Windows+Server+2003+Evaluation+Download&product_id=099-91708
And they'll email you the key!
:D Enjoy
UPDATE:
At the time of the above posting, the files were freely downloadable. Thus the links I provided. Now Microsoft has changed their policy and they now make you register to download them, even though the trials are still free.. you must now register:
:view: View: Register for the Server 2003 Trial Downloads (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/evaluation/trial/privacy.mspx)
Download a pre-configured version of Windows Server 2003 R2 in a VHD for evaluation (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/try/vhd/default.mspx)
You can now get a free 30-day trial version of Windows Sever 2003 R2 pre-installed and pre-configured in a VHD. Click here to access the VHD catalog with the Windows Server evaluation VHD.
The VHDs in the catalog is currently available in English only.
PIPER May 22nd, 2003, 09:43 AM Thanks BB...as usual, you're the Man!!
Big Booger May 22nd, 2003, 10:00 AM Glad to help Piper. This release is absolutely free and works just as good as any other release, even the RTMs. Just has a 180 day timebomb :(
but if after 180 days you can always reinstall and try it again :D
hehehe
Hans August 12th, 2003, 14:12 PM BB,
Good ot see your posts here. I know Windows server has a time bomb and recently I came across the msfn.org site which has a tool to remove the time bomb. I dont know how effective it really is in removing the time bomb. Only time can say. The tool is called Tweaknt.exe.
Do you know how to change the existing key to a different product key after its been activated with an initial key?
Thanks and regards
Hans

I can imagine that the windows server 2003 key change is the same as the XP. Not sure as I've never had to do it. MSFN have a great guide setup for windows server 2003. Very thorough and well organized.
:D
And welcome to TZ.

Hans August 13th, 2003, 14:03 PM BB,
Thanks for welcoming me and also for the info for product change. I do know about the way to change the product key in XP.
I wanted to know if its any different in 2003. :)
Thanks and Regards
Hans
Big Booger August 13th, 2003, 14:40 PM Give it a shot and let me know. I'm actually curious about this. It may help if in a corporate environment, you found that your key was pirated and want to change it without reinstalling. Amazing.
:D
I think the XP method will work because they both use the same product key activation scheme.
Hans August 14th, 2003, 14:49 PM Alright BB,
I will give it a shot and let you know of the results.

Hans August 20th, 2003, 19:16 PM BB,
I did try to change the Product key of W2k3 server and since Ihad already activated it with the eval Key, it wouldnt let me break the evaluation by changing atleast one number is oobetimer.
Even after changing the number and bringing up the activation window, I see the message which tells that the machine is already activated.
I dont know any other way of breaking the previous activation to enter another Product Key.
Regards
Hans
Big Booger August 21st, 2003, 00:22 AM try it in safe mode perhaps? LEt me know if that works.

robert_t September 28th, 2004, 15:40 PM Hi,
I had a trial license for 2003 Server on a test server and went on holiday, came back to find that it had expired (clever, not). Now I can only watch the machine restart itself after the friendly "go buy a copy" message and have no option to uninstall and go back to the NT Server I had before.
Does anybody know a simple way to uninstall the expired trial and get back to the previous OS - without the ultimate "simple" approach of doing a reformat??
Any ideas would be appreciated.... Putting the trial CD (self-burned from ISO image) into the CD drive and booting has no effect so I assume there is no simple "uninstall" option...
I'm not looking for a crack, just help.
TIA,
Robert
phishhead September 28th, 2004, 15:59 PM if this is for test purposes have you considered just reformatting the partition.
Detekt September 29th, 2004, 05:30 AM i had downloaded the Winodows 2003 Enterprise Server 3 months ago from microsoft :p
Big Booger September 29th, 2004, 07:59 AM I don't know if this is possible. But have you tried booting to safemode? And then going to the control panel, add/remove programs, and see if there is an uninstaller for 2003?
If it's not available, you could try backing up your data from safemode, and then installing NT in a separate partition. Reformat the 2003 partition, and then recombine the NT partition with the 2003 formatted partition???
Unless you have say a backup of the previous installed OS.. where you could revert to the backed up image, that would be the one way I know of that might work in this situation... but you'd need to have something like Norton Ghost, or another software already installed and done before the trial expired.. :D
shinji September 30th, 2004, 22:28 PM I know it is supposed to be a legit topic so I won't say how to do it but you can convert the trial disc into a full enterprise disc by replacing one file but you must reinstall windows 2003 enterprise. The side effect is that it WILL activate with the trial key but not have a timebomb. No you cannot get the file easily. I got it a long time ago through a connection I had. The trial keys are able to update via windows update and it will not be able to detect if you have a timebomb or not.
Oh and I don't use that disc at all as I have no real need for it. I tried it to see if a theory that I had would work and I was right about it. I verified timebomb being disabled at install time by using tweaknt on it after installation (revealed no timebomb) and verified activation possibility by actually activating the software. Then used windows update without issue.
Can someone write the link wehre i can download "windows server 2003":)

Slow start up & shut down when you have a laptop of these specs setup as a Domain Controller/File Server/DHCP but it's a laugh, lol
