View Full Version : hiding win versions on desktop shadow_warez May 3rd, 2003, 15:42 PM how do you get rid of the windows version numbers on the bottom right of your screen, i tryed Xteq, it only shows me whats their and wont let me change it, zErO May 3rd, 2003, 16:07 PM Remove windows version from desktop using "regedit.exe" 1.Click on "Start", then "Run.." and type "regedit". 2.Navigate to the registry key: "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop". 3.Once there, locate the DWORD value "PaintDesktopVersion". 4.Right click on it and select Modify. -Value equal to "0" removes Windows version from desktop. -Value equal to "1" adds Windows version to desktop. 5.Reboot your computer. :) Big Booger May 3rd, 2003, 16:50 PM you cannot remove the numbers from longhorn after version 4008.. it just doesn't work any more :( shadow_warez May 3rd, 2003, 21:00 PM it doesnt work i rebooted and its still their, i changed it to 0 still shows up, Jackpot May 14th, 2003, 03:23 AM Originally posted by Big Booger you cannot remove the numbers from longhorn after version 4008.. it just doesn't work any more :( You can always get rid of it the generic way that you previously shared with me Boogz... THat is exactly how I am running windows Longhorn now, with a predominantly white background.. can't even see the build :D But I always know it is there. Thor May 14th, 2003, 07:16 AM Doesn't M$ TweakUI have the option to remove desktop branding? Even if so, would it work on Longhorn? Big Booger May 14th, 2003, 07:38 AM The tweak Ui does work on XP, but unfortunately it will not work on Longhorn. I wished there was a way to remove it, as it is very annoying.. it would also be nice just to edit it.. I am sure if you had the time and information, you could hunt it down and edit it.. but as this is just an pre-alpha, I am not going to even try :P Well, if I find anything about this, I will definitely post it. Thor May 14th, 2003, 08:04 AM Being a pre-alpha I wouldn't try too hard myself...........still....................it's nice having a clean desktop. Gotta be one of those keys that you don't that most dont have a clue about with a string of letters, numbers in it. Thor May 14th, 2003, 08:14 AM This works on XP so...............maybe? Try this but back up the Registry first or at least save the keys that will be changed/deleted! This message is placed on the desktop when some of the betas of service pack 1 were installed. Generally it was accepted that people should restore back to the point prior to applying the beta before they applied the next beta or final service pack. The text can be removed manually if you wish.
