I'm working on it, now peeps are saying there's a softmod for 9500pro to 9700 so I need to test, you won't get the extra 128mb memory bus back, but ????...will let you know.
Your CPU is choking ya now

I got one about a month ago and have softmodded it to the 9700 pro.And this morning I installed the hacked driver for the 9800.You have to have the red pcb card with the four memory chips in an L configuration at the back of the card. Here's the link if you have the right card.9500Softmod (http://www.maxdownloads.com/~ian/wizzard/)
I have been fortunate enough to have no artifacts.Be sure to install the cat 3.2 drivers before you start replacing the ati2mtag file. The instruction are pretty clear.Let us know how it goes Eggs.

I have an ATi Video card, the original Radeon 32DDR, and I spend time at Rage3D (http://www.rage3d.com) check the forums for the latest drivers and info on 9500 -> 9700 conversions ;)
I think the latest drivers automatically update it :D (not sure though)

thanks zipp51,
i saw that site but im wondering.
its for the 9500 non pro
i have the pro
shoot:(
it seems the 9500 non pro has the 256bit bus and mine has 128
you can turn the 9500 into a 9700 with the mod and you can move a resistor to another place on the chip and enable the other 4 pipelines making it 8 piplines like my card.
hmm...
i would like to know if there is a bios hack for my card that will just turn it into the 9700 by default?

Actually there is an update about hardware modding a red pcb 9500 card. Was away this weekend on someone elses computer and did some research and I don't have the link right now but I will retrieve it somehow. The update showed a much easier way, with no soldering and desoldering needed. You use conductive ink to open the 4 pipelines and then flash the card's bios to a 9700Pro.Much easier and safer. There is a small difference between the soft and hard mods here, performance wise, but the hardware change will basically give you a genuine 9700 Pro that was rejected by quality control.
:D
Edit; Here is the link for the easier hardware mod.ClickHere (http://reviews.designtechnica.com/guide12_page5.html)

Found a 9500 pro for $189 US + shipping from Cali.PM me if you are interested. Also a 9500 red pcb which can be softmodded to 9800 specs with equal performance for $135 + shipping. You can also hard mod with conductive ink along with flashing the bios to get a real 9700 pro.
