Microsoft continually works to improve its software. As part of this effort, we develop updates and fixes to recognized issues and release them for customers. On a regular basis, we combine many of these fixes into a single package and make the package available for you to install on your computers. These packages are called Service Packs.

Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) provides the latest security and reliability updates to the Windows XP family of operating systems, and includes Internet Explorer 6 SP2. Windows XP SP2 is designed to ensure Windows XP platform compatibility with newly released software and hardware, and includes updates that resolve issues discovered by customers or by Microsoft's internal testing team.

TechConnect did finally get their hands on the latest Windows XP Service Pack 2 build 1213. Of course is it possible to download from them, use it at your own risk!

I am anxious for them to release SP2 officially.. it is good to test if you like testing out the newest betas. To be honest I haven't heard of a user having a problem with the previous version. You could always reformat in case of a problem.. and you'd be out some time and effort. :D

ANyone tried it yet? If not, I will do it this weekend and let you know what happens.

Does it needs SP1??
If not I can try it in the spare machine. IN that one I don't have SP! since I couldn't install it (probably you all know why) :p

Nah..it should include all the updates from SP1

Any word on the final release date for SP2. I've got 2 PCs sitting here in agony desperately needing a reformat, but they'll have to wait for SP2 - I'm not gonna sit there and download all the QuickFixes on dialup again. :p

Supa,
If you are lucky and can get a copy of PC Magazine or another computer magazine, they sometimes ship with CDs that contain the Service Packs for windows, amongst other software. I know back in the day this is how I used to upgrade Internet Explorer and such.
:D

I hope ever so soon that the days of dialup access are eliminated.. People the world over should never have to surf the web on dialup. It seems like a travesty. Especially for an industrial power.
